Default Silly oil question....

Does the "type" of oil affect it's consumption and possibly blowby? After I replaced my oil pump, the only thing available to me was some Mobil 1 10w-30 drive clean oil. Just wondering if it isn't as "prepared" for the harsh environment of a performance engine.

yeah the oil i put in wasn't the normal hi-po synthetic that our cars stock get. just was asking since besides the overly rich condition i have(black smoke) from no tuning yet, a friend said i had some blue smoke mixed in there too

Yes, different brands of oil can burn more than others, as some are slightly different viscosities, even if both are rated 10w30, one could be on the thin end of that range while the other is at the top. Plus, synthetics tend to burn less also, due to having better NOACK volatility results.

Mobil 1 5w30 and 10w30 both tend to cause more oil burning in the LS1 since they are on the thin end of the 30wt range. This is why I tell people to run 0w40 if they want to stick with M1, or to run Amsoil 5w30 or 0w30, or Redline 5w30, or German Castrol 0w30, or Royal Purple Racing 41. All of these oils have the correct operating viscosity which is more suited to a hard driven LS1.

Good deal... Glad I switched over to Amsoil
