I just know the cheap way. You can bring up your e-brake up just a notch just enough to turn on the brake light in the dash.

Did you start the engine and then brought up the e-brake? If so its the other way around, first bring up the e-brake and then start the engine.

A better way is to lift up your dash panel, disconnect the daylight sensor and insert a jumper wire across the two wires in the connector. Now everything will work normally but there will be no daytime running lights.

That applies to the cars with the automatic headlights not DRL's.

My bad. I'm on the road this week and I posted quickly without thinking about it. There is a modification that will disable the DRLs but I don't have my documentation here. Try searching the forums or I will post it when I get back.

OK, I'm back and I have my documentation.

To "permanently" disable the daytime running lights, pull the radio so you can get to the DRL module mounted behind it. Cut the light blue, light blue with white stripe, dark blue and dark blue with white stripe wires. Connect the harness end of the light blue wire to the light blue with white stripe wire. Similarly, connect the harness ends of the dark blue and dark blue with white stripe wire. (Just cutting the wires will disable the DRLs but you have to splice them together to prevent losing your front turn signals as well.)

In effect, you are bypassing the DRL module by connecting the white-striped input wires directly to the no-stripe output wires for each side (light blue is left side and dark blue is right side).

There isn't any way to have the automatic headlights work at night but not come on if it gets dark enough during the day (like during a rain storm). You could put a switch in the leads to the sensor but you'd still have to turn it on at night and off during the day so that's no better than just using the headlight switch.

If you want the headlights to work only manually with the switch, just unplug the daylight sensor in the dash next to the defroster vent and connect the two wires in the harness with a jumper. This will make the system think it is daylight all the time.

Back from the dead. Will this work on my 98 Z28 or is this only for the Birds?

I have a 99 Camaro and it was somewhat different for mine. On my DRL it had no wires in the 2 stated above (both were empty). So I simply opened up the DRL module and put some solder across the 2 pins internally and it is a permanent disable.
I also did 2 other modifications that help tremendously at night. I modified the headlight system so the low and high beams would both be on in high beam mode and I modified the driving lights so they would also stay on in high beam mode. Both of those changes made a substantial improvement in night visibility.

I'm glad this was bumped cause I'm wanting to disable mine as well to save the sockets from cooking themselves so frequently. I drive my car a ton & those damn amber bulbs being on constantly just creates too much heat, especially in the summer.

I bought new housings/sockets but haven't installed them yet cause I was wanting to figure out how to disable the DRL's first.

I like the look of the DRLs, makes the car look meaner imo. However, I do hate changing bulbs.

I seem to remember simply disconnecting one of the connections at that black box behind the radio
