Dex-cool Coolant?????
Dex-cool Coolant????? Hey all i was curious should i change the dex in my 02 to the green stuff or just leave it alone? reason im asking is cause i hear alot of bad things about the dex and i dont wont my car messing up especially by the coolant, it gets rarely driven too so it's a garage/weekend driver. anyhow anyone and everyone fell free to let me know some info so i know what to do thanks all. 
I have seen the damage the pink stuff can do...BUT it comes from lack of maintenance. If you use the pink stuff, you need to flush it and change it and the recommended intervals.

Coolant is so cheap you can change it more often just incase. I just bought at car at 72K and I flushed it twice and added the green stuff. I figured even if dex is not bad, I know green is not bad and they cost the same. So whatever, I like my green stuff. I had 'mud' in my 96 with orange stuff. It was right after I got it in 97 with 30K on the clock. I don't know what caused it, but I heard dex turns to mud. I don't want that in my 00 Z.
Don't use the green stuff. Dexcool was designed to work with the different alloys, metals and plastics in your motor. The green stuff will cause deteriation and is highly NOT recomended. It is good for 5 years or 100,000 mi. That's like running Type-F fluid in your auto transmission when it was designed for Dexron lll. Or DOT3 brake fluid in a DOT4 designed system. It's not meant to be. It's not sales hype to get more money out of you. All fluids have different properties and are designed to work in specific systems.
but what about the the stuff you can mix with all types, they now have the 5 year, 150,000 mile wear on it too. I say it dosen't matter, my dex cool mudded up and I never mixed it with green!

If you've got alot of miles on some coolant, and you pull out the overflow tank dipstick, and it's got some gunk on it, then it's time to do a flush.
I like to flush everything out and get it back to pure water, then use this..

...let it run in the motor while you drive it for a day or so, then flush it back to clean water and run this...

...for another day orso, then flush a bunch with water, and re-fill with dex-cool. You can buy all this stuff at Advance Auto, those bottle are about 6" tall and are usually found around the brake cleaner and ****.
Make sure you're not going to hit sub-freezing temperatures during those times. When i bought my poor ole z28 @ 85k, there was what looked like peanut butter on the overflow dipstick. You WOULDN'T BELIEVE the crap that came out after i did these steps. Now it's clean as a whistle.

does anyone have a link or a step by step on the best way to flush out the coolant system? im going to need to do this when i get my motor running. should i just disconnect the lower radiator hose? and use a hose to flush water through it?
