That rwtq number in your signature, is that with your storker motor?

Hey Todd,

I definately think you'd get a lot of business assembling shortblocks for a reasonable price, especially after you did a few and people saw you were doing quality work. I too have gotten irritated at the price gouging that seems to go on in the LS1 aftermarket community, some of the quoted prices I've seen are ridiculous from H/C packages to assembled shortblocks.

MTI can also provide a 383cid (6.3L) engine package using a non-modified LS1 block and a forged stroker crankshaft kit. This engine setup includes a stock aluminum LS1/LS6 block, 4.00" forged stroker crankshaft, custom forged pistons and rings, custom billet connecting rods, all new bearings,
Price MTI 383cid Stroker Shortblock $5,995 +exchange
A large portion of the $ for these packages appears to be tied up in the Lunati rotating assembly, which is about $3700. Seems that you could cut at least $1000 (depending on what rods, pistons, and how good a deal you got on the crank) by going with the Eagle crank.

Similar deal here but the shop builds mostly NASCAR/BUSCH engines and a few NHRA. Sounds like I should be happy with the pricing all things considered. I've NEVER looked into having a bottom end done so this is new to me.

I appreciate the education on the pricing.

Thanks

Oh as for the Lunati assembly for a sweet deal call TBryne...it's well worth the phone call if you want the Lunati. Trust me.

Spohn had the Eagle crank for $820 and I was adding in what it cost to buy piston, rods, bolts & rings seperate. Balancing might be a little high.

I called Speed Demon they had them sell them for around $2000

Yeah, I saw he was having a sale. Anytime you have to e-mail Tom to get a price, (i.e. he can't/won't post it) it's probably going to be good.

H82BBad, thanks for the info I didn't think about the rod bolts may being an issue with aftermarket rods and the crank being ok.

I had Joe Jolly of LPE build my short block I think by the time all of the Labor,Balanceing,Align bored and hone,Machine,Assembly and all that it ran right in the range of $3000. No parts. It has Lunati crank, Ross piston, and all of the high quality parts so it will only have to be a one time purchace hopefully. Im happy with it runs real strong for a 8.9-1 motor. Idles like a champ.

As far as Lunati Kits go. Tbyrne was $3999 when I was buying mine. Ramcharges hooked me up at $3350. I doubt Tbyrne can match that price even now.

yes. The car is running now! I am putting in my 9inch ths week. I have been fighting trans problems since I got it done.I think I have them fixed now.

BTW Machine work for my block was
80.00 to hone it, 25.00 to clean it, and 30.00 to install cam bearings I clearenced it for my rods here at the house.

I bought my stoker kit used on here for 2100.00

the shop i'm using is similar to this, he builds some of the fastest 410 sprint car engines in the country, and his personal drag car a 67 vette with a 487 ci small block chevy runs a 6.60 1/4 mile. assembling an ls1 short block is the same as any other motor, good machine work, check cleanrances and torques, take your time and its gonna work out. there is nothing special about them.
