Default Royal Purple Oil?

Is it everything it claims to be? or is Mobil 1 just as good if not better?

The only reason i would buy it is because its purple , but aside from that i would think that a synthetic oil is a synthetic oil whether it be castrol, mobil 1, havoline, royal purple or whatever you like.

the place that did the machine work on the 454 in the chevelle swares by royal purple...he said after break in run it all the time...reason to not run a synthetic before break in it the rings wont break in properly....the oil is only purple until its in the crank case...they just die it... I was told it has teflon in it that coats engine parts to help wear better than Mobil 1

I use it in my brand new motor, probably going to keep using it, or upgrade to a redline oil

Royal Purple did not do well in my wife's Honda at all, it thinned out very quickly into a 5w20 oil, in just 2400 miles! I've not been impressed with 90% of the oil analysis results I've seen with this oil (I've seen probably 10-12 of them)

If you're using this oil, I highly recommend getting an oil analysis done to see how this oil is working for you. I personally think the LS1 works much better with either Amsoil 5w30, Redline 5w30, or German made Castrol 0w30. A turbocharged or supercharged LS1 would work well with Redline or Amsoil 10w40.

Doesn't it depend on your driving style, and possibly the climates you live in? I figure oil is just about as good as any oil, if you change it regularly. Most oils last longer than 3000 miles anyways.

I think Royal Purple may be a new sponsor here soon. They are inquiring. Maybe we can run some tests or something, who knows.

How your oil analysis results turn out definitely depends a lot on climate and your driving style, which is why it's good to compare your results only under similar conditions in the same vehicle. This is also why it's good to do a few oil analysis results over multiple intervals.

All oils are not going to give you equal results though, although any oil can get you to 100k or even 150k when changed before it's useful life is up. Conventional oils can go beyond 3k under ideal conditions, however their performance in extreme cold and extreme heat is not as good as synthetics. If you drive your car hard and want maximum life out of your engine, synthetics are the way to go, mainly because they keep the engine much cleaner inside.

Royal Purple is a specialty oil. I never heard of an oil manufactuer putting in teflon as an additive. I choose to run Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec in my cars in the 5w30 weight as stated by GM. GM is strongly against oil additives, and it even states that in your owners manual. Additives meaning DuraLube, Prolong, STP, and guess what Slick 50 which is nothing more than a bottle of Teflon. Its your car and use whatever you want, but make sure that your using an oil that has the starburst symbol. Starburst means that is contains the proper cleaners and detergents. Those specialty oils like Royal Purple and Redline may increase power and protect well, but I dont know of engine cleanilness in regards to them. The only other thing that I heard about these oils is that for some reason they do not dispearse mositure at all in the crankcase. Not quite sure why though.

Thats also a good oil. Any named brand synthetic with the symbol is fine. I just prefer Mobil 1 and Castrol. Ive used it before and it was a very nice product.

Why did Mobil file a lawsuit against Castrol for "claiming that Syntec is not actually synthetic"? Is this true?
