castrol dino 10w30 changed 3k miles, actually every three months

if i used syn. i would go 5k miles but I dont see the purpose in synthetic when i only put 5k miles a year on my car.

Mobil One has been recommended by GM for the Vette LS1 engine for years.

I have been running Mobil 1 0W40 the last 2 oil changes. 5 more psi at idle and at cruise. than Mobil 5w30. Zero oil consuption in 3K miles!

I've never seen an oil analysis with Valvoline in an LS1, but I know it is not that thick of an oil, so it probably wouldn't show any super stellar wear numbers. The LS1 shows it's best numbers with a 30wt oil which is closer to 12cst at 100c.

The best thing to do if you're curious about the performance of the oil you're using is to send off a used sample for analysis (preferrably after you've run the same oil for 2-3 intervals in a row, in order to truly get an idea of how it's doing)

Doesn't 30wt always have the best wear/longevity numbers for all v8's except when it's cold?

As for Royal Purple...it may dyno higher when fresh...with the additive package is fresh...but wait and dyno it again with 3,000 miles on it and compare...

I've think under some conditions Royal Purple additive package that helps the hp numbers will breakdown rather quick.

I NEVER got a straight answer on this when corrosponding with RP about two years ago.

I use Redline 10w40 in the summer and 5w40 in the winter. Great oil pressure and no problems so far.

Hey Patman,

What weight do you recommend for Mobil 1? I asked you this a while back and I think you said 0w40. I currently run 5w30 winter and 10w30 summer.

Because Mobil 1's 0w30, 5w30 and 10w30 are all 10cst at 100c, which is the thin end of the 30wt range, I would say to go with 0w40 if you absolutely must use Mobil 1.

Although in a few months they will be releasing a new 0w30 racing oil which will most likely be closer to the top end of the 30wt range, plus they are also coming out with a 5w40. So stay tuned, Mobil 1 might have a couple of winners on their hands.

Hate to say it but i changed my RP every 1500-2000 miles

10w40 in the summer here in houston and 10w30 in winter....car made over 430 on mti's dyno even with 110,000 on the clock..DON'T SKIMP ON THE OIL AND KEEP A FULL 6QTS in that sucker....no matter what the manual says..when ur pullin wheels at launch u loose oil pressure....if ur worred about the 5hp loss due to the extra oil ur in the wrong bidddness.....
