Default Max Valve Spring Lift for New Cam

I'm installing a 226/234 113 cam in my LS1 engine. Its mostly stock except for headers and intake. The valve lift for the cam I'm installing is .603 in. I'm going to use dual valve springs and I'm not sure how much lift I should get on the springs. I found good .650 and .660 options and not many smaller sets. Are the .650 or .660 max lift springs too big? Thanks!

A .650 lift spring will be fine for what you're doing. A .600" lift spring would work as well, if they're available.

Yea, if you have a spring that coil binds at .600, your probably not gonna be happy with the results with that cam. lol

A .600" max lift spring will coil bind at at .660-.680" lift if installed at the correct installed height because of lofting. Lets just say that if the valve lift is actually .603" (Which we already know that it isn't because of this thing called deflection. It's probably more like .585-.590"), that .003" you will never know. You're talking the thickness of a piece of paper. So to the OP, get whatever is in the budget for you within those spring guidelines, and you'll be fine.

I can go with that.

You might want the hihger lift springs depending on your lobe design and valve weight for proper spring pressure

Hydraulic lifters bleed down allso so your coil bind is not super critical in addition to the streach springs add and expansion of the metal
