Default Need some opinions for side molding.. Please

I have an 02 SS with the side molding on it still. Some people have been saying take them off. Just need some opinions on to leave them on or take them off. And if take them off what the best way to. And since its and 02 will the paint underneath be a different color. Thanks for the help.

i say take them off, it looks way cleaner. You can just rip them off or use fishing line and slide it in between the molding and the car. You could also heat it with a hair dryer first(i didnt) if you wanted being sure to hold the dryer a foot or two back for obvious reasons. then once the molding itself is off youll have this glue crap left over take some 3M adhesive remover or goo gone to remove that then follow it up with a wash and wax.

imo makes it plainer. it doesn't look busy, just adds a nice touch. most people won't even notice it with or without anyways.

I am thinking about doing this to my camaro too. I was wondering if the paint underneath will be faded since my car is a 99

^ the paint underneath wont be. the paint you can see right now is though. it would be darker. im pretty sure using a compound on the area would even it out. at least if not, i doubt many people would like it removed.

I took my side molding off a few months ago, because it was faded. I just grabbed an end, and pulled it off. Then I saturated the glue in goo gone, and used my thumb to get the glue off. I think it makes the car look way cleaner, you can actually see the body lines of the car rather than the busy, sticking-out molding. My T/A is a 99 and everything's fine as far as the paint underneath goes.

Also don't worry about another car hitting yours because the molding isn't there to protect it, almost every other car's door will open higher than the molding anyway.

Use fishing string. And yes, take it off! Your car will look cleaner (smoother). And you shouldn't have any issues with paint fade since it is an '02 and is silver.

I'm going to go against the grain...I've had 2 4th gens...one with, one without...and I like the look better with the moulding than without. It's all a matter of personal taste, though...do what looks best to you.

Take them off, it looks so much better. One of those little things you don't think about much until you see how it looks without it.
