This should be a challenge for me to make look good.....

But Hey, im up for a challenge.. :D

Here is my "new" 2000 Camaro LS1 engine.. had 23k on the odometer and a matching 4L60E trans. Came will all you see (including the dirt), the computer, MAF and all the goodies. :)

Paid $2800 shipped for the whole deal.. now to get it on an engine stand over at Don Lees and get it clean and stripped of all the crud I dont need like AC, Smog, etc..

I thought this would make a good "before" picture.

Look at it this way, at least it's easier to do when the whole thing's out of the car ;)

So will gasoline and a match. jk

I've seen cleaner piles of dirt. Who would do such a thing to an engine?

Can't wait to see what you can turn that ugly duckling into, Steve.

Re: This should be a challenge for me to make look good.....

Well keep in mind this is a wrecking yard.. the car was broadsided and totaled.. engine has been out of the car for a month.. doesn't take long to get dirty.. maybe the greasy protected the block.. :jest:

Once I strip off all the accesories and scrub it down it should be better.. to be honest ive seen dirtier engines in peoples cars at CAR SHOWS!! lol..

Considering painting the block but cant decide on color..

My first stop from the wrecking yard would be a pressure washer and a TON of degreaser. At least aluminum and plastic engines don't rust :D

Pff, just another LS1 for steve to get all shinny again :). It does look bad, but it actually doesn't seem like it will be too hard to clean since it isn't in the car. Then once you take it apart all the fine details and extra work to make it look perfect come in :D.

Steve found a new way to get that pesky #8 plug out!

Re: This should be a challenge for me to make look good.....

At a glance it looks a bit overwhelming, but there is not doubt that engine can be resurrected back into tip-top shape. You should definitely consider painting the block. :)

Re: This should be a challenge for me to make look good.....

Remember that half of that crap can be unbolted and tossed away :)

I cant decide what color to paint the block.. one idea was in the same blue the car will be.. its not like you see a LOT of the block :) If I did this then i would go with charcoal grey bracktes and chrome accents..

I cant wait to get it stripped down.. Whoot!

Re: This should be a challenge for me to make look good.....

yeah, I'm also wondering if I should paint my block. Its not really that bright, kind of a light gray color right now. Maybe bright red to match my car? I like the way Todd's (Reckless) looks. Hmmm..... all silver and polished/chrome stuff, or red?

Tony

Steve1969LS1 10-04-2003 10:25 PM

Re: This should be a challenge for me to make look good.....

I say red to match the car.. then do the the brackets, timing cover and such in near chrome, silver or charcoal grey metallic.. accent with some chrome bits and chrome all the bolts. Get a 98 water pump (removable pulley) and polish it, chrome the pulley and get a billet PS pulley from Turn One.

You can also pull apart the factory alternator and have the casing polished, chormed or powdered..

Re: This should be a challenge for me to make look good.....

its sad to see what happens to alot of the beautiful cars and engines. some people just destroy these beautiful machines and could care less, and people like me dream of having such a car. :(

Re: This should be a challenge for me to make look good.....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there's an LS1 under all that dirt!

Don't worry Steve, we're confident that you can turn the bling meter on that thing from Zero to 15 gazillion. :)

Re: This should be a challenge for me to make look good.....

You would definitely see the block if you have mirrors at car shows!! ;) I am sure you won't, but don't take any shortcuts Steve! ;)
