Default TA HID fog review...

I installed some HID fogs in my TA in January. It was easy to see that they produced way more like than the stock bulbs. I got a chance to finally drive it at night. The largest improvement was in the increased light spread on the roads edge and the drivers side road lines. I went with 6k bulbs and if I was to do it over I'd have chosen the 5k bulbs. The 6k bulbs definitely have a blue look at the outer edges where the headlights don't reach. Certainly a worthwhile mod but not a replacement for a headlight upgrade. That's next.

Yeah, where did you get the kit and how much? I want to upgrade the fogs in my Z28.

Did you put a projector setup in them or just put a HID bulb into the halogen housing? if the latter. Don't be surprised when some road raging lunatic turns around and follows you for blinding him. Glare is horrible from HIDs in Halogen housings.

I got a superslim kit from Ebay. The TA foglights have a metal cut off inside the housing which keeps the light under control. Not a single person flashed me last night.

You're expecting proper light control from a improperly done system. Doesn't happen.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean here. Are you telling me that although they are low to the ground, that becuase they are H.I.D's they will appear at headlight level to oncoming traffic?

I'm saying hids put out much more light energy than the halogen housing is designed to work with. Putting Hids into Halogen Reflector housings causes alot of glare and light splash that shouldn't exist. Fogs IF properly aimed should have a lesser amount of this glare over lights at the regular headlight level, they will still have it. Any time HIDs are installed they should be done with a projector design so they don't have the glare in opposing lanes. HID in Halogen Low beam headlights tend to appear as High beams when opposing drivers see them since their not made for it. Fogs are going to have the same problem.

HIDs generally don't have the silver cap seen on the end of a lowbeam or fog bulb to reduce forground lighting glare.

Is there any way to keep them from doing that?

Oh boy, here we go with the Reflector Housings scandal.

BlueBird, i'm not sure.. An easy way I guess is to not drive with them on for a while, which is impossible for me because I always have them on. Maybe if you got brand new housings or something. Or maybe there are different housings you can put them in.
Or just get projector fogs

i think i've seen housings that are glass instaed of plastic on ebay. I have hid fogs in mine as well and they're melting the housing. If I'm gonna buy new housings though, I'll just pick up the hella projector housings for the foglights that are same size and will produce much more light.

I thought the HID were suppose to run cooler than the halogens?

Has anyone found aftermarket projector housings that mount in the 98-02 TA's without losing the adjustability?
