Default How do I clean my engine bay without having to wash it down?

I read the technical service bulletin about '98-'02 LS1 cars getting their knock sensors ruined, because of the frequent washing of the engine bay. Now, I don't want that to happen to my car. Is there an alternative to cleaning the engine bay without having to resort to washing it down? Could I just wipe the engine down with a damp cloth and/or blow the dust/dirt off with a leaf blower? Or is there some safe cleaning solution that I can use without having to rinse it off with water? Thanks in advance for the info.

A damp towel will work but if your engine bay is way dirty, which it shouldn't be, then you're not going to get far.
