Default Any ideas on how to change red color of optima battery

The standard Optima battery color is Red. But I have an all black/silver (metal) color scheme under my hood. Though the red battery is 'okay', I'd really like it to be Black.

I cant find a battery cover or anything for it. I know some sponsers sell mirror or chome, but they are for the standard batteries, not the Optima.

dude,... buy the cover, and send it out to get powder coated. It'll hold up a hell of a lot better than paint. It's THAT simple.

I should have mentioned, its the 75/35 battery. The ones Optima make dont fit this battery, go figure.

...but our sponser might be able to make one up.

Thats the battery I have. I have been looking for years. There is a guy on here that painted his. I painted mine with colormatched paint but didn't like the look of it. I went to Home Depot and got a piece of thin metal and made one. I cut it a little oversized, rounded the corners and drilled the holes for the top post. I don't like it either but it is better than the painted battery version. Never thought about emblempros, I'll send him a PM. The one from Specialized Stainless is not for this battery. I even thought about one of those billet/chrome ones that bolt in but the battery sits on top of the coolant tank. I'm in if a "cool" one can be found for this battery.

We have Optima battery covers in brushed and polished stainless for both the 75/35 AND 34/78. We can also powder coat them any color you like, even candy colors. Plus we can etch stuff on them!

Here's the link to our site: http://store.specializedstainless.co...Battery+Covers

Also, if you're going to use it on your Camaro and you have air conditioning you'll notice that the battery sits really close to the AC line on the right (driver) side. We can notch the cover to clear the line but make sure to let us know.

Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you, Specialized Stainless.

I would think adhesion promoter and paint would work.

Maybe new style? I don't see myself ever using the top post anyway.

OKay cool, I just might have to buy one of your brushed covers and have you powder coat it black for me.

Thats because your battery is just a 78 series battery. The 35/75 is a dual terminal battery. The 78 is actually a wider battery than the 35/75. Sorry, just my two cents

That was awesome information for me. Thank You for posting it. I just ordered a red cover from Summit Racing; which, provides additional short-circuit protection and covers the top terminals completely. The cost was only $11.25 plus shipping (the yellow and blue are $16.95 they do not go with my color scheme).

I really did not want to give up the custom etched battery cover I have. However, it will not fit the Optima Red-Top unless I drill holes in the SS cover and use some rubberized insulation material to prevent the battery from arcing. But now I will nort have to modify my cover in any way. This inexpensive cover Summit Racing has fixes all my So Now I can just take the cover that I have and love and just velcro it to this cover. I also have a black/silver theme underhood but this red will be fine ( I could even paint it or powder coat it black if I decide to); and my Transmission dipstick has a red handle and I have various red accents through the Trans Am....so this was an excellent solution for me.

just remove the battery, scuff it up, tape the terminals and paint them. I do this to all my batteries.

here's a before/after of my painted battery top
