My steering wheel is about to die!!!!!

It got bent back a long time ago and I straightened it back out a week or two ago and every since then it has been bending and getting very flemsy!

I know its time for a new steering wheel but how much does it cost foor a new one and where can I get it installed?? I would like an aftermarket one but I like the radio controls on mine and I can't find an aftermarket wheel to fit.

If I was to find an aftermarket wheel..... What would I do about my air bags? Disconnect them?

How hard is it to remove the stock steering wheel and install another one??

The steering wheel is easy to replace. Simply remove the airbag 15 amp fuse, 2 T25 torx bit (maybe 27) on the backside of the steering wheel to remove the airbag..undo the bolt holding the wheel one then use a puller to pop it off.

You can probably find a used steering wheel online some where for 100 bucks or so.

If you go aftermarket you'll probably need some adaptors. You can leave the airbag unplugged but the airbag light will be one. Supposedly you can put a resistor across the airbag wires to fool the SIR module in thinking the airbag is still there. Havent done aftermarket wheels so I cant verify that.

I wouldn't eliminate the air bag. I know the stock steering wheels are ugly these days but if your car isn't stricly for competition use and you drive it on the streets, you're better off with the airbag steering wheel.

Believe it or not I like the stock steering wheels... I would prefer something from the aftermarket but it takes away from the value of the car(not like it matters to me b/c it'll be with me for a while!) I also like the radio controls.

I am not to sure if the air bags actually save peoples lives.... But I won't get rid of em just for the point that they are supposed to.

I am concerned about taking them out to change steering wheels though. Im scared the bastards gunna pop out and kill me er something. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

Yeah I have heard some gross stories of things that happened to people from airbags employing with things like that.

Hey, The Guy in MY 99TA did you get this taken care of ?

I am going to be removing my airbag steering wheel from my 1998 T/A in the very near future to replace it with an aftermarket unit.

I don't give a damn about the airbag. Never had one help me (wrecked and no deployment-Ford). Besides that, I am going to be using harnesses so it will be useless anyway.

Also if anyone knows about the proper resistor to keep the Airbag light off?

nevermind last question a different search shows the resistor to be a 2ohm unit

ive wanted to get a aftermarket steering wheel for a while now. id like to get a red and black sparco to go with my seats. i could care less about the air bags,i dont drive this car much and show and performance come first.does anyone make a direct bolt on adapter?
