Ok, I didn't want to bump any old threads hence this thread. I'm going to order HIDs today and I'm hoping you guys can answer these questions. Should I get 35w or 55w and 6000k or 8000k? Will I need anything else or would these be plug N play? Are the fogs 880 or 894? What about the bulbs (9006)? Should I get HIDs in HI/LO? This is for my SS and I'm going to order it off DDM Tuning. While searching on their site I wasn't able to find 880 or 894 HIDs. Anyone know where to find them on their site?

-I would go with 6000k for light output personally, 8000k will be more blue but whatever look you want is up to you. I run 5000K in my car, want the most light possible and not concerned with "the look". I would also recommend 35w from personal experience, they get very warm, I have had no melting of anything but only imagine the 55w is hotter.

Will I need anything else or would these be plug N play?
-They will be plug and play, the ballast will plug into your headlight power source, them the pigtails coming off the ballast plug into the bulb. Won't need to wire anything, just plug them in.

Are the fogs 880 or 894?
- I have read multiple time the 880's fit better than the 894's but the 894's fit as well.

What about the bulbs (9006)?
-Lows are 9006, hi's are 9005

Should I get HIDs in HI/LO?
-I only see a need for low beams, unless you use your hi's a lot, there isn't a need for it. If you wanna spend the money just to know they are the same then go for it.

-I have had very positive experiences with an ebay seller by the name of xhidoutlet. Good communication and customer service which is tough to find on ebay these days. If you can't find the bulbs for the 894's I know he has some, and you could just get another ballast kit from DDM or wherever you are comfortable buying from.

Looking at the HID fog pics you posted... Do the fogs need balasts also?

Yes the ballasts are plug and play for the lows. The 880/894 bulbs have a different plug than the hi/low bulbs. The plug for the 880/894 looks like it will work just fine with the original plug, as far as a ballast goes for the fogs I don't know what the stock wattage is, but if it is the same then you shouldn't need one (I can't speak for this because I am not running HID fogs, just lows.)

The 35w will be PLENTY bright. For a reference, my 35w haven't melted anything in my stock housings, but when testing the bulbs etc. they DID melt the plastic enclosure the bulbs come shipped in :eek2:. Could be something specific to my setup, I can't speak for the 55w kits as I have had no experience with them. All I can say is that the 35w is PLENTY of light.

All you really need is a 35W kit. That produces enough light. I do recommend you look into a relay harness with either kit. I use one on my cars. The relay harness will use the battery to power the HIDs instead of the factory wiring. HIDs take a lot of power when they are first turned on. While running they use less. The harness will also keep you from experienceing any flickering that sometimes occurs when they areplugged into the factory wiring. It does happen but you can run them without the harness as well. This also goes for using a harness with the fog lights. Any HID bulb requires a ballast. So that's a yes to your fog light question. 880's should fit fine in the fog light. Looking at their site they do offer 880 kits.

I recommend you go with either 5000K or 6000K. Anything higher and you start losing light output.

Well put, I agree with everything in this post FWIW

6000k is the brightest and they are a "pure white"
8000k looks light blue and are still Extremly bright.

I suggest the 8000k. Thats what I have in my dodge diesel and in the H2. Lights things up VERY VERY well!!!

I've had both 4500K and 6000K and had more light output from the 4500K bulbs.

This chart gives a good idea of what to expect from the dif temp bulbs. I'm a fan of anything in the 4300-5000K range, anything above that is sacrificing light output for color output (in dumbed down terms).

But as you can see any HID will outperform a stock bulb in terms of light output no matter the temp of the HID bulb. The color etc. are personal preference.

Thanks for the info everyone! I just ordered the HIDs for my SS and civic. I'm going to order the fog lights soon.

If I upgraded my headlights with a sealed beam conversion kit, is that the same as having projectors? As in the proper housings for HIDs?

No. They'd still be reflectors and scatter light too much.

So...not to thread hack...but I'm on DDM Tuning right now and looking at their Apexcone Raptor V2 Mid Sized HID kit and then I see their DDM HID Kit Slim Ballast (35W or 55W)...which they claim is for any car, truck, or SUV. Which kit do ya'll prefer? I don't really see what the difference is between the two...other than price. Anyone?

It appears you are paying for the smaller ballast, there isn't a difference in the performance.
