Best way to polish up a set of stock LS1 valve covers at home?

I have a buffer but have never tried to polish anything before. Any suggestions would be apprecaited.

Check out this write-up on polishing...it's pretty good.

i used sand paper up to 1000 grit like u said im having trouble making it shine i used tthe emery polish like u said but it still leaves scratches and strikes and i can make it shine even after the white rogure im getting furstrated, sanding sucks

In the write up it says to use Tripoli Compound, not Emery. The little scratches can be removed with the Tripoli Compound. Buy the video from Eastwood, seeing everything in motion will show and teach you much more. Then pratice, pratice, pratice. It takes a ton of time to polish, not something that takes an hour or so, especially at first.

ya i been working on my buddies stang strut tower brace for about 8 hrs, and we havent been getting too far but we been doing it with out the tripoli after the final step with the white rogue wat do you recomend for the keep up of it, and will it rust if so wat do u use to prevent this thanks

I would polish aluminum, and have metal chromed. You can spray it with clear coat.
