Default How do you roll/bend rear fender well lip?

I am going to put 315's on a 01 z28 and I think I will need to roll the rear fender well lip. What tools/techniques are used to accomplish this without bending or denting the exterior of the fender?

I would like to know the exact process as well, I have 15x10 prostars w/27x11.5x15 QTP's, and the fender lip cuts into the tire, I need to stop this...

Any exact instructions on how to do this?

Use a 1lb or 2 lb hammer. Remove the tire, support the car on jackstands, and start tapping the lip upward on a 45' angle from the inside. Do hundreds of small taps, don't hit too hard. It'll probably take about a half hour per side, but you wont damage the outer quarter if you take your time.

I did this before I flared my quarters, and have done it on 2 others cars to clear ET streets with no problems.

Here is the RIGHT tool to do it and not risk f'ing up your quarter panel..

http://www.chicanesport.com/product_catalog.html

Its called a "Chicane Jimmy" and while not cheap you could split the cost among several friends.. cheaper than bodywork on your quarter to fix it if you mess up with the BFH..

I think there is also an article there about how to do it.. hope it helps..

I'm gonna try the hammer thing...

I assume I should use a rubber 1lb hammer, not a regular...I really don't want the paint to come off or crack...

There was an article in some obscure Camaro mag I saw about a year ago that showed how to roll fender lips. They has the specific tool and to avoid paint cracking, they used an X-acto type utility knife to make a slit in the paint all the way around the inside of the fender lip, right at the point the bending was going on. This was to avoid pulling the paint off the body as the panel was bent by giving it a pre-scored line. After they were done they sanded and painted everything and you could not tell anything had been done.

GM uses a water based paint and if your not careful it will crack and peel off in rather large pieces.. just look at a fbod thats been hit sometime..

Cutting the paint with a razor prevents the paint from cracking on the quarter.. I think the magazine was Camaro Performers.. I will look for the issue.. Or you could call the place that sells the tool since they did the article at thier shop..
