Salt Road Grime on Weld Pro-Stars?? What to do?
There was salt still left on the roads from snow we had, and then it rained...I had to drive home from a friends house, and I let the car sit for a day or two after that because it was still raining...
When I went to wash my car I noticed when I was all done cleaning it there was still dirt and salt crystals still on the rims...I tried a lot of stuff/products to get it off...
My next step is to try the Mothers Polish stuff...do you think this will work, and does anyone have any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Bos

Yeah, try some aluminum polish. I got whitewall cleaner on my draglites, and they had spots and streeks, looked like crap. It worked for me.

Simple Green on a cool rim followed by an aluminum polish work great. I use this combo on my Boyd wheels and NEVER had a problem.

Something just doesn't look right about "salt and road grime" appearing in the same sentence as "Weld Pro-Stars"
Bos, please tell me you weren't driving around on ET Drags in the snow!

I tried the mothers polish straight up, I cleaned the rim really good first...it made the rim shine a lot, but didn't touch the spots...

I use a polish called "Xtreme" and it will get rid of your spots plus make your rims look better than new.. Right now, BadAss2002Z28 is borrowing it. Ask him how good it works on his DragLites. Unfortunately, the only place I know that sells it is a small parts store in Wood River IL. It comes in a black plastic jar w/ pink and yellow lettering. The stuff itself kinda looks like cotton candy.

The spots are where the salt etched the aluminum so the only way to get rid of them is to remove the corrosion by physically scrubbing it off with a metal polish. Lots of effort but really the only way. That's why aluminum wheels shouldn't be used in areas where salt is on the roads unless they are clearcoated.
