That's different for sure! On a side note, I learned to drive on one of those cars (Lincoln Mark VIII). Beautiful cars, and what a suprising sleeper with the DOHC 4.6

YURVIEW 12-16-2010 09:43 AM

That Pretty Damn Cool!!! But can you imagine trying to get out of the thing when the motor goes out??!! lol and would eliminate any Lowering of the vehicle. But I could live with the ride height, for something that cool!!

GM had "clamshell" rear doors on the 71-76 full size station wagons which operated very similar to these except the window opens by rolling up into the roof. the window was powered but some cars had a manual door you had to lift up into place, by the end of their run almost all of them had the power door option.

well if you're referring to that station wagon, it had a forward facing 3rd seat and the driver had the only button for the door other than operating it with a key.

i do however remember my dad saying his 79 olds wagon was recalled to install a special lock for the storage unit on the side of the car in the back because kids would open them up and crawl in there and suffocate. the newer locks kept the key in the lock and you had to lock the unit from the outside to get the key out so you couldn't leave it unlocked. basically it was impossible to get locked in there from the inside.

I was making a broad statement about all of the automatic doors in this thread.
