I do not want to seem like a dumbass, but can they really make a set of keys strictly off of the VIN number? because that's just stupid as hell if it is true. I have bever had to make another set.
I thought if they were the Chip/Coded keys they needed one of the originals to make a spare?

YES. I can. I am a GM employee, I have access to any key code I wish. However, certain documentation must be provided to cut a key, which is a Title or a Registration. without those documents, with the persons listed on those documents present with government issued ID's, I am not allowed per GM to do so. If a car ends up stolen and I have cut the key, the law and GM come to me PERSONALLY. Not to my employer. I get bulletins about keycode misconduct and thefts almost monthly. people would get jobs at dealerships and start railin out keys for stolen cars. We are limited to key codes daily now, with only so many allowed per dealer. Our management has decided to stop providing this service to the public, and only use our alloted look-ups for in-house vehicles. I can do them at my discretion, but its a personal decision.

haha, this thread makes me laugh, if you don't want a product, then don't buy it. Guess what Mr. Super-doucher cop, I'm sure there are plenty of other laws that need to be enforced other than covering up your vin #. Not only that, its not like covering the vin is the only illegal mod people have done.
