AFTERMARKET CME KIT's INSTALLED:

Whats up peeps. Like title says, anyone have pictures of their aftermarket CME tips/rear valance installed?

Any tips for me? I bought the 6litereaterdesigns CME Kit and I went to have it painted, bondo'ed to the bumper and the bumper painted... Paint Shop wanted a GRAND. I obviously said, " OH HEEEELLLL NO".

I still have the polished tips and raw valance in my garage 4 months later :(

I have a white SS and think it would make the car look siiiiiiiick with it installed.

So the reasoning for this thread is to see how people did their kits. How they put the rear valance on. Whether by 3M tape that was provided (And if so, how did it hold?) or pop riveted and 3m'ed?

However you put your rear valance on.. please explain and give feedback about that method. Whether you loved it, hated it, felt indifferent. Have any thoughts at all about it.

I need all the help I can get.

I originally wanted to have it molded to the rear bumper so it looked uniformed and all one piece. But after hearing THAT QUOTE, I dont think I will be doing THAT. Now just painting the rear valance and slapping it on with the provided 3M tape makes me a bit nervous.

So I want to see your cars done. And a short story about it.

Thanks Peep's.

Remember, PICTURES ARE KEY HERE!

FreakishSpeed Jun 9, 2011 06:59 PM

Probably a flex bondo.

Just got mine painted and slapped it on with the 3M tape and the 2 bolts that are already holding the bumper to the support frame behind the rear wheel.

I had mine blended as well. The painter riveted it to the bumper first, then used fiberglass as a filler. The paint he used has some kind of special flex agent in it. It turned out awesome. Save your $ and have it blended.

I just drove mine to the shop and it was done and in primer in 5 hours! lol. And like the guy below I'm quoting said, mine had pretty much the same steps.... Riveted about every 2 inches or so. Then apply a flex additive to a filler... but i dont think it was bondo, some thing with more flex and wont harden and crack... I think it was a fierglas type filler like 67SS&99SS said. Then when it got painted some more flex additive was added to the paint and voila! :D

67SS&99SS,

I have a question for you. I have a GMMG and I'm wanting to add a CME kit from 6LE. Can you tell me if you had to cut any of the length off of the GMMG exaust pipes to put the 90 degree bends on?

No, I didn't. I purchased the elbows from SLP. They were having a close out on some stainless elbows a few months ago. The exhaust shop trimmed them down and expanded them so that they slipped over the GMMG and inside the cme tip. Then I used 2.5" band clamps on the cme tip instead of having it welded due to fear of damaging the cme from heat & sparks. It also made adjusting their position very easy. I was able to move them left and right, and tilt them up or down this way.

OK, thanks! I bought the 90 degree bends from SLP also, to have them just in case. I just didn't want to cut any off of GMMG.
