Save yourself about 1 hour of work and don't do it! Unless you plan on just adding the same color (red/orange), or possibly white, in LED's, it's a worthless swap. Any other color (blue or green for example) will be dimmer than factory due to that awesome orangish filter/film between the lights and the overlay. Unless you have an aftermarket overal (6LE's for example), avoid doing this. I've done this mod on most all of my recent vehicles and it has worked out great.

And my next will be my bike. Should have that done this or next week. I just wanted to post this 'cause if I had read something like this prior, I would have saved myself some cash and time. I searched as well, but didn't find anything particular saying not to do this swap 'til after I started. Oh well.

yea.. you should have read up, i did it to mine and love it (stock with red leds) you should have figured that would happen after you took the stock CLEAR bulbs out

^^ Are those backlit with leds? If so, what color? White leds seem to produce more of a blue color due to the blue on the back of the ovelay, but those look great in the pic..

Out of curiosity, how hard is it to replace the factory bulbs in the gauge cluster with LED's? I would actually want to keep the red.

Remove the trim piece around the dash (behind the steering wheel) If I remember correctly there are 4 bolts holding the cluster in. Unbolt those and literally pull the cluster straight out. On the back of the unit, the bulbs twist right out. Then twist your new LED's in. Push the cluster back in and turn on your parking lamps. If any of the LED's didn't light up, take that one LED out, and flip it 180 degrees to switch polarity. Try it again, and once you're good bolt everything back up.

Oh, and.. super bright led's is the place to be.

I dunno, you guys say just pull the cluster "straight out" but mine never came straight out. It was more of a pull, then rotate a billion ways to get it to clear the steering column. Going back in was no fun either.

Yeah its kind of like the car shows on tv that show you how to take something apart and fix it when they say "just slide this part off from this one or just unbolt it and remove"....and then make it look like a cakewalk because they have already taken it apart prior to filming and its just sitting there barely on the car now. I always laugh at that because people who work on their cars know that its NEVER that easy and it always takes 2-3x the effort and time it took them...bastards!

Ive been debating swapping to led's inside the car. I like the clarity of the bulbs but not really the brightness. I also dont want it to look like **** and have color where it shouldnt show, mixing, etc. This is always what hinders me buying a ton of leds.

Camaros have the hangover on the dash that prevents easy removal. Birds/Formulas have an easier time on removal.
