I used a couple base coats of adhesion promoter, and then topped off with gloss black spray for plastics, composites, etc. Got it all at Auto Zone.

budget wise duplicolor works fine. 2 light coats adhesion promoter, 2-3 coats filler primer(sandable primer is optional) depending on how well you sanded it. 3-5 coats paint of your choice, I did 7 coats of clear coat to really give it that powder coated look. All rattle can. The trick is prep work, don't skimp out on sanding. I went 120,220,400,600,then 1000 grit, smooth as can be.

For my LS6 I gave it a nice bath then hit it with 400 then 800 then 1000grit sand paper then some adhesive promotor then a high build primer then few coats of duplicolor and then duplicolor clear. It came out great.

Whats wrong with the factory look it has right now?
I'd reccomend sanding it, It will give you that smooth gloss look.

I painted my intake with the VHT wrinkle finish and I think it gives a close look to the casting marks.
