Default Amber LED Bulbs in 2000 SS Fog Lights

Anyone done this? Please post pics if you have them so I can get an idea. Kinda trying to reproduce the look of the C6 daytime runnning lights in my SS.

Personally, I wouldn't put in Amber bulbs in the fog lights. I would just put Amber LED's in the turn signals and upgrade the lighting in the fog lights. Just my $0.02 though.

Putting amber LEDs in the stock fog lights would be useless. The housing would glow amber, but you'd have poor output. The stock halogen bulbs will be much brighter.

I always thought yellow was a better color to cut through fog..

They are FOG lights, right?

Yellow is a better color for fog lights. That is not the problem. The problem is the LED. There are no compatible drop-in LED replacements that will give good results. They are all multi-element units that will not properly focus the light in the projector housing. Halogen projectors are designed for a single point of light coming from a properly positioned filament. A multi-element drop-in LED replacement does not achieve this.

If you want yellow light, get Yellow Halogen Bulbs. Or alternatively, you can try a Yellow HID Kit.

Also, the title and body of this thread don't quite match.

Do you want 1) Yellow Fog Lights, or do you want 2) Amber DRL?

If #1, see my post above, Get Yellow Halogen Bulbs or a Yellow HID kit.

If #2, you already have that. If you want LED in the DRL, then get "tower" style amber LED.

Am shooting for #2 - amber driving lights even though the lights are technically "fog lights." Don't drive much in the fog here in central Texas so thought I would use these as DRLs. The ones I ordered are towered amber LED lights to replace the existing clear bulbs in the fog light housing. Might have to check out what a previous poster stated about the LED bulbs I bought will fit into the standard fog light housings.

Will keep you all posted on the results and take some night photos of results.

Thanks all for the comments and suggestions. You all are why I love this forum

You already have Amber DRL. You want to turn the fog lights into a second set of amber DRL?

I think it would look cool. Kind of like the 69's orange lights up front.

Yeah, VIP1, exactly what I had in mind but a set I can turn on and off at will.

Got the amber LED fog lights in today. Will install them sometime this week and post day and nightime pics with them on as soon as I'm done. Just an experiment to see if the amber LEDs provide more or less light and/or a cool or different look.

Thanks to all for replys and advice/opinions. This is why I love this forum!

Update: Well, I received my amber LED tower bulbs from forum vendor Superbright LEDs. Problem: although the connection attached to the LED bulb to connect to the factory wiring was spot on, the actual base of the LED bulb itself did not fit into the fog light housing. Turning, angling, etc. the LED bulb did not help as it was just to fat in diameter to enter into the housing to twist and lock it in place. So, I contacted Superbright and made arrangements for a return and full refund. BTW, Superbright really is "super" in their understanding and customer service.

Alternative: Found some regular H11 halogen fog light bulbs that are actually amber/yellowish in color and ordered these. They have the connection attached just like the stock bulbs. Supposed to be delivered sometime this week and will get them installed this weekend. Will post up some pictures for those that are interested.

Sorry, the bulb number is a 881, not a H11. I think the H11 is for the headlights. Bulb finder on the vendor website indicated 881 for the fog lights.

881/880 fit the same socket, have the same wattage, and fit the same connector. The only different is one has a straight connector, the other has a 90* angled connector.

There is no H11 bulb or socket on any 4-th gen f-body.
