Correct, they all use the same wheel, The vettes are just usually leather wrapped and slightly dressier. There called the Corprate Wheel. Ive seen them in Vettes/Cobalts/G5/G6/HHR/Malibu... probably others too

The 2012-2013 Corvettes got the Vette specific version. Same wheel, different deco. Design is the same for the leather or suede version. To my knowlege theres blue, red, orange and yellow in addition to the grey stitching.

Im not sure if it the modern design would flow with our interior though.

The newest gen GM corporate wheel bolts to the column with a buff Torx bolt that kind of resembles the bolts that attach the seat belts in the 4th gen. Its a entirely different ball game. This is a 5th gen Camaro column.

yup, what lt4 vert said, i did some research last night on it... the C6 style wheels are probably going to be the last update for the saginaw column. I dont imagine any of the C7 stuff will be the same and the Camaro stuff is a no go.

I almost want to go to a junkyard and yank the cheapest cobalt column I can find and another fbody column, just to tear them both apart side by side and compare build design and mess with ideas lol. I don't have the space (or time) to do this however.

Just thinking out loud here, but might it be easier to cut a small section, say a 3"-4" square out of the center of the stock wheel and weld it into the back of the donor wheel? You'd have to make extra sure the welds were strong and leave enough material to overlap a bit, but it seems reasonable that this would still be much stronger than some of the thinner parts of the wheel, such as the spokes. I can see that welding together two shafts, as proposed earlier, would be a dangerous weak link, but with much more surface area, the wheel itself seems safer.

lol tryed that... newer wheels are aluminum, old ones are steel... its a no go on the welding idea. Best ways to swap the shaft. Trust me, I spent a year trying to find every way around it.

Side note, shes done and in the car... Took it for a drive tonight, much better feel than the stocker. Still no airbag, waiting on it to get here but so far well worth the money and time spent.

So how does it feel driving the car with the thicker rim and a airbag that doesn't look like a womans purse. To me little insignificant things like this can dramatically transform the personality of driving the car. Drive an F-body with good seats and a good steering wheel and you could never ever go back to stock and be happy

Great job man. Whens are you supposed to get the airbag?

For the Chevy guys that do this , you can get a airbag with a bowtie from a 08-12 Malibu, HHR, 07-10 Cobalt. If you want the SS airbag, the HHR SS was the ONLY bag of the 3 spoke wheel design to have an SS badge. The Cobalt SS oddly retained the bowtie badge.

Looks like us Bird folk will have to look into getting one of those custom covers fashioned with a Pontiac logo or something along those lines if we want to do this swap and make it "look stock" (as stock as you can)

I should have my airbag next week sometime. As an update I was able to make the horn work, ill do a little write up on that later today. The car drives and feels suprisingly well with the lighter smaller wheel. Much more modern feeling, I was pretty happy with it.

Oh right lol. I'm assuming that airbag color matches the color of the Vette wheel

I thought my friend's Cobalt SS had a tilt column.. Heck I didn't know you could get a car without tilt wheel anymore. OK, fine, a malibu, impala, or whatever else column!
