Shbox has an exploded view here of the nomenclature. I remember finding another write up as well. I believe im going to actually pull the column out of the car so I can paint and restore everything as i go.

Thats awesome. I wish I had that when I swapped my upper shaft in 03.

Something I found when helping my friend look at possible wheel swaps for another car is some bags are single stage and others are dual stage. Not sure how the fbodies are vs the newer vettes, but something to check into.

at this point ill probably ditch the airbag... too many variables for something you cant prove will work or not until the worst case scenario occurs. Id rather just know its not there. If someone else is willing to test and try the stuff I'll give it a go but at this point all i want is the wheel in the car lol

I think thats the most prudent thing to do. Engineers test these bags to the absolute n-th degree for a reason, especially the newer multi-stage weight sensing bags. I think its the one area where the car enthusiast should either leave the system as is, or remove the system completely. There are just too many unknown variables. Suppose I sound like downer saying that, but in my mind doesnt make me wrong.

With that outa the way, hopefully you can unbolt the small disc inflator on the back of the G5 bag and have the appearance of OEM. Then take lots of pics of the wheel in the car

Don't even really need to unbolt the inflator or bag, just don't plug it in.

this ^ .

Once you leave it unplugged the whole Airbag system will be disabled.

Should look great but I would personally keep the stock wheel and have a working airbag over a newer wheel with no airbag. Steering wheel style won't matter much if ever in a bad accident and your head is through the windshield.

K, confirmed the C6 airbag is a dual stage so those bags are a no go.

Personally for me (and i know many will disagree), ive seen airbags do just as much harm as good... either way it is what it is. This is more of a showcar than a driver the way i see it. My gramps 67 dosent have a bag either and I drive it all the time... hell even been in an accident with it. The way I see it, when your numbers up its up... no piece of cloth is gonna stop whats ment to be.

On an update, i ordered the bag today so hopefully ittl be here by monday so i can start the steering swap when i get home. Major updates coming soon!

Subscribed and looking forward to pics!

I agree with no air bag. Would that disablement cause any lights to illuminate on the dash. (i.e SRS light..etc Which ever light we or your particular setup may have.) Because that **** is annoying!

Yes it would. You'd want to pull/break that bulb, put tape over it, something.

Pull the cluster out and disassemble it to this point. Wad up some black electrical tape and stick in the hole that the light is in. You might be able to just pull the light out, but doing my LED swap, I found out if some aren't there or put in backwards, it makes other LEDs not work.

What other steering wheels out of GM cars look the same as the C6 one? I'm talking with the leather and all. I'd be really cool to put a Redline Goods wrap on it. As for the airbag....I have an idea that way you could get anyone available and make it look like sex.

I present to you...Apsis leather airbag covers. Fully customizable.
