Default Trans Am center taillight panel

Mine has been painted over. Just wondering how these are factory. Are they black painted or are they more like a taillight where there is a clear cover over a black background. Just want to restore it to original appearing.

It's just a black plastic piece, no paint, no clear cover. wetsand and buff it, and should look as good as new.

I wet sanded the bird and lettering off of mine with 2000 grit and then buffed it out with Meguiars Ultimate Compound followed by Ultimate Polish using a DA. You can buy the compounds from walmart or any auto store for less than $10 each. I had them left over from my paint correction. I did that to all of the lenses on the car and they all look factory fresh.
