Default Has anyone ever tried this 3M Clear film stuff?

It looks like it a poorman's version of the clear auto bra. I bought into the hype and got some but haven't used it yet. Just wondering if anyone out there has. I'm only planning on using it on my lower rear portion of my wheel wells where rocks and debris from my tires "sand off" the paint in that area in the rain because I have a CME and that body panel sits lower.

BTW, I got it a Autozone.

I just did it last night on my black Cruze, did the whole front bumper, all the hood, and half the fenders. Pretty sure I followed the instructions to the point... and it looks horrible. I gotta peel that **** off this afternoon and I might try again on a small 12"x12" square and see how it goes with a different approach.

heard the same thing from the professional installer who does the actual paint protection films at my dealer. He tried it just so he can have a leg to stand on when a customer brings it up to him. I also asked him about it he said stay clear of it.

I wouldn't do it honestly.

If you are just doing that lower rocker portion/back bumper portion shouldnt cost more then a few hundred. Had it done on my car along with full hood, front fenders, and bumper. with all the edges wrapped. Normally would cost around 1200-1500 for that complete job and this guy is an absolute professional, no seems all wrapped edges. Absoultely take his word

Got some pics for you guys, here are my results. I'm pretty sure I followed the instructions to the point, counting 6 sec in between each pass and all and this was my turnout. Needless to say I can't wait to take this crap off. Might be easier on a white car or something but on black its horrible, at least for me.

While it was drying:

Then it dried:

You are not alone. There is a thread over on autogeek about this. Your application looks just like his with the hazy ornage peel appearance. By the way that guy had a hard time removing it. He used plastic razors in addition to adhesive remover.

That stuff sucks. We dicked around that stuff at work (AZ) and it really never works well. The only thing I could think of it being used for is if youre going on a long drive and dont want rock chips etc.

if you're gonna bother doing something do it right the first time. Sure it costs a lot more but you'll be happy the first time.

Glad I did a search before buying this stuff. I was going to try it on the rear wheel wells and behind the rear wheels, to prevent drag strip rubber from sticking.

How to remove 3M Clear film? (<-google search purposes)

Well I removed mine by putting rubbing Alcohol in a spray bottle then spraying it directly on the surface and scraping it off using a ID, worked like a charm and didn't scratch my paint at all, I immediately sprayed it off with water then washed the car real good. It was the fastest easiest method for me.

I almost bought this stuff, im glad i found this thread first. Im sure somebody will say they like the look it gives, but as already stated you could use clear plastidip for half the price and it would look similar.
