New Racing Seats Installed in 02 WS6

Last week I finished upgrading my Suspension, Wheels and Brakes. This week I replaced my aging seats.

Pulled the stock seats. Quick 3 minutes to remove. $2.00 in change richer.

Installed the universal bracket for Firebirds/TA's. Had to drill extra holes in the passenger side. Wanted it an extra 1" further back.

This week I replaced my seats. The stock seats with brackets weighted in at approx. 48 lbs each. New seats with bracket 30 lbs. each.

I still have to order leather pieces with the red stitching to make it look better, but thats next pay day.

Nice, what seats are those and what brackets did you use? it looks like everything went in pretty damn smoothly

roninsonic 02-21-2015 02:17 PM

what seats are those? They're SEXY. I like 'em.

blaine123 02-21-2015 02:20 PM

Send me a PM if you want to know what they are or at least where they come from. They don't' really have a name.

ramairetransam 02-21-2015 03:00 PM

look nice , what are you going to do for a seatbelt holder?

Rise of the Phoenix 02-21-2015 04:33 PM

PM sent. They kind of look like my Jegs/Summit ones, but nicer.

Most put the seat belt thru the hole in the seat, but I'm not too sure if I like the way it looks that way. So I found this:

What the Z28's seats do with it.

I plan on adding 5 pt harnesses soon to fix this, but I'd like to the the roll cage in first.

jaxcam02 02-21-2015 06:23 PM

6LE makes a harness bar too if you didn't want to invest in a full roll cage. I still want a harness but I'm not going the full roll cage route so that's another option to consider.

It's amazing the difference seats make. I threw in a pair of ebay $250 cloth recliners with wannabee harnesses. (didn't install the harnesses) EVERYONE was commenting on my "drag" seats, and how "hard" it makes my car look. I was just tired of sitting on exposed metal. I used a big zip tie to hold the stock seatbelt to the seat like oem so it wouldn't chafe my neck. Cloth seats rule. They're not cold in the winter or hot in the summer, plus the have awesome lateral grip on your ass so road coursing is a breeze.

Please tell me you are not going to buy those $30 straps with 3M tape and stick them to your seats...

I used the same brackets, you can find them on EBAY and amazon. Think they were called "planted" very thick and a majority of the weight.

Will use something like for a temp fix. Not sure which way I'd apply it.. didn't really want to sew it on since I don't want it permanent. If you ever driven with the factory seat belt with a racing seat... its quite annoying when it slides all over.. and it wears the side of your new seat.

Same method used from GM recaro racing seats.

I plan on finding a set of black factory seat belts and adding those. Not going to add a roll cage until I replace my rear end.

those look like the Corbeau Sportline RRS.

not a fan of routing the seatbelt through the hole. or putting the 6LE part on either. the ZL1 seatbelt loop looks good and like it belongs there.

smitty2919 02-22-2015 12:22 PM

I drive with a racing seat and OEM belt all summer...except when I bolt in a 5pt for autocross days. I route it through the seat hole and deal with it.

I'm not bashing the method of securing the belt with a leather loop...it's the 3M "stick on" that seems ghetto. I would sew something on if you ever plan to keep the OEM belt and racing seat. I'm not 100% sure if a 5pt harness is DOT approved for DD use.

Like you said, the seat was not expensive so sewing something onto it should not be a big issue.

Think I'm gonna get it sewn on professionally and have "TRANS AM" sewn on them as well while they are out.

3M is just one way of doing it (if you notice they don't come with 3M), he also mentions getting it sewn on for best results.

I have to think about what I'm going to do with my seats and the seatbelt guide.

So far they feel great. Nice support.

Seems legit. Hopefully the material isn't garbage. Thanks
