Finally perfected my blue gauge cluster in my daily
On my NBM daily I was getting sick of looking at the red gauges.
I got rid of the red film by scrapping it off with a razor blade after I cleaned off the sticky residue with some Goof Off. Just the red film is printed on the back. After much trial and error, I found the absolute best solution option to get the true blue I was looking for was to use a Sharpie. Best part is, Sharpie makes like 50 different colors so you can have any color you want using white LEDs in the gauge cluster.
As you can see in the above picture that the blue film on the bottom was part of my testing. Even 4 layers wasn't blue enough.
I found 4 even passes using the Sharpie gave me the best results. The left has 1 pass...
For the HVAC and headlight overlay, everything is printed on the back side so there is no way to get rid of just the red film. I went on eBay and bought used Camaro parts as their film is blue. I just went over the blue film with my Sharpie to make it more blue. I used white LEDs for these. On the TA AC *****, there is actually a little red insert on the back you can pop out, which I did.
I also found out through testing that white LEDs and blue LEDs made almost no difference except to the orange needles. With the white, the needles were too bright and had an orange glow behind the centers. Coloring the center of the needle with the blue Sharpie and using blue LEDs made a huge improvement. In hindsight, I might not have needed to use a Sharpie since I did go with blue LEDs in the end. I originally thought the blue lights wouldn't light up the orange needles enough.
Final product with blue odometer

I re-glued my overlays back together using this. You can choose from several in the craft section in Walmart.
These were the style 74 LEDs I used in the HVAC
I used these blue 194 bulb 5630 SMD LEDs in the gauge cluster.

Means a lot considering you're doing some amazing things with the screens in the gauge cluster.
I knew I forgot a picture. I just updated it above. Macewen silver overlays...
It's really not hard at all to take the cluster apart. If you really want to cover your ***, you can buy a cheap cluster on eBay. Just reuse your odometer as that is where the mileage is stored.
