That glue on the inside door water shield

google has failed me......what is that black sticky stuff holding the rain shield on under the door panel ? where to get it.....

I prefer the OEM stuff over duct tape

I believe it's similar to windshield adhesive but doesn't get as solid

sjsingle1 03-17-2019 11:09 PM

I would think windshield adhesive gets hard after awhile.....but yes....this stuff is as tacky as hell

The old school windshield sealant you are referring to is called butyl. It stays fairly plyable for years. It's probably similar to what's used on the plastic lining for some doors.

The newer sealant on windshield is urethane and is much harder similar to rubber.

I got mine from ebay.

sjsingle1 03-18-2019 11:29 PM

as thin as it is on the shield it looks like a thin rolled strip or from a caulk tube

Floorman279 03-19-2019 05:20 PM

yea i guess try searching for the butyl stuff

The autozone here sells a butyl strip in a roll. It's pretty close.

i saw that roll on ebay too.....seems a bit to thick .....IDK

if i got a caulk tube .....i would not even use a 1/16 or it ....but i guess it would last forever LOL

JoshHefnerX 03-20-2019 11:23 AM

I don't know about your car, but mine had thin and thick areas just kind of glopped on. You can stretch this stuff out if it's too thick but I don't think it is. It's stretchy and can be molded like silly putty.

It's really not that hard just go to advance or autozone and buy some. It's just some black gummy tarry shit you push on. It stays soft for years.

3M Window weld ribbon sealer part number 08610 is what we use here at my dealership.
