Default How do I clean, paint my rearend?

I just bought 4.10 gears and added a TA girdle and the rearend itself looks horrible. It is completely rusted and and has oil all over it where it has leaked out. It is currently out of the car so what is best? Is there some kind of solvent I can do to remove the oil so the paint will stick? And what kind of paint should I use? I don't need the paint to look like the body of the car, I just want it not-rusted and attractive if your behind me or if I'm trailoring it. Thanks guys.

PM this guy. He took the links to his pics of his newly painted rear end.

it's expensive, but POR 15 is the best stuff to use. the entire undercarage of my jeep is coated with it.

Go to the POR-15 web site and you'll see a Kit that includes everything you need. The kit includes cleaner, primer, and of course, POR-15. After you are done with the POR-15, you can lightly sand it and then use a regular gloss paint on top.

Wear Gloves when you use the POR-15 paint! Don't get it on anything other than the rear or you'll be sorry.

Good luck,
John
