Default Best Swirl Remover for Black Paint?

I got a 2001 Black Trans Am and I'm starting to notice alot of swirl marks on the hood. Apparently my dad found his old Turtle Wax buffer so I decided to give it a shot. I layed down a layer of Meguiar's ScratchX by hand, then a layer of wax with NXT by the buffer and it looks pretty good, however I still see quite a few swirls, alot less than before, but still, swirls. Is there ANYTHING that will remove swirls off of a black car?

There are lots of products that remove swirl marks. Your Turtle Wax buffer isn't going to be too much help (but could be better than hand). Menzerna, Einzett, Poorboy's, etc. make good polishes. For hand applications, you would probably want to look into Einzett Paint Polish and Einzett Metallic Polish.

Prep work is the key to making your finish look its best:

The polishes I suggested will probably due a much better job than ScratchX.

Zaino does not remove swirls; it just fills and hides them. I like Menzera with a PC give excellent results for me.

3M Swirl Remover, Part #39009 for dark colored cars. Buy an 8" orbital buffer from Walmart and use a foam pad. It will take out every single swirl you have. Great stuff.

Menzerna + Porter Cable Polisher. The only stuff that touches my Black 2K WS6 - must be doing a great job - I have quite a few trophies for this car.

Another vote for Menzerna and a polisher. I gave the BCoD the Menzerna IP and Menzerna FP2 treatment several months ago with staggeringly good results. Not a swirl to be found anywhere.

ZaneO - I swear some of them do it just to make you mad.

Menzerna and the PC 7424 with Lake Country pads...if you want to help hide the deep ones, use a glaze. Daily driven black car here, and there aren't many people that realize it (they think it is a garage queen). DO NOT try getting them out by hand unless you are looking for a good work out...oh, and get some good microfiber towels.

Menzerna polish(es) and a Porter-Cable 7424 Polisher. Nothing you can do by hand will compare.

Also, as Zane, Meent, chuprokabra and a few others have mentioned, get some good microfiber towels. Without them, there is a good chance that any wiping you do after the fact will be putting more swirls into the paint.

Again, definetely worth the time/$$ invested. Once you get a porter-cable you can use it to detail others' cars and easily make back what you have into the machine.

You have me intrigued with this Menzera stuff. What combinations do you use on a fairly new car? NBM to be exact. Also, what pads do you suggest with the Porter 7424? Thanks!

I use Menzerna Intensive polish and Menzerna Final polish. There is no way to tell you what you will need without seeing your finish in person. I suggest investing in some orange and white pads (I use Lake Country and Sonus brands).

With all the products I use the porter cable and the correct pads from properautocare.com. Then always wipe off with good microfiber.

3M rubbing compound (only if the car has a ton of swirls)
#9 Meguirs polish
Liquid Glass

Sometimes I'll throw on the Meguiars #3 glaze for more depth.

*You should do a search on the board as this topic has been discussed a lot in the past few months. Oh ya, the best thing for a good finish is the prep work followed by decent products....

I tend to agree with these guys here - the pads I use may be a bit different, but different cars have different needs. My car is black, just for reference.

I like to use Menzerna Intensive Polish with an Orange Power Pad from properautocare

I like to use Menzerna Final Polish with a Yellow Cutting Pad from properautocare

In both cases I use the 7 inch version of the pads because I like the beveled edge (it allows me to work the nooks and crannies that are found on a trans-am)

As ZaneO stated, there are also a bunch of other great polishes and pads, such as sonus pads (lakecountry and properautocare are one and the same), poorboys polishes, einzsett polishes, etc. etc.

I recommend the menzerna because I've used it and I know it to be a polish that can and will produce perfect results when used properly. I've yet to try some of the newer products (einzsett, poorboys) but I will hopefully giving them a try this winter.

Would this be a good starter kit to test the Menzerna out?
Or am I better off buying separately to get better pads and microfiber?
