Default Has my paint faded? (vinyl flame removal)

Ive had these flames on for about two years and I am thinking of taking them off. I live in Texas and the sun is pretty intense, Would the fading around the flames be ugly. I think it might look pretty cool.

It will probably be pretty noticable where the flames once were, but I agree that it will more than likely look cool.

Well I dont know how faded it will be, but it will be nicer then the paint around it. Since it has basicly been protected by the vinyl for 2 years. I will probley need a good buffing to even out the paint.

It's gonna have a nice ghost flame job.

Does your car sit outside most of the time? If that vinyl is baked on good enough, it might take the clearcoat and possibly the basecoat off in spots.

I had Vinyl down the side of my Z very similar in fashion to yours. I live in KY, and the sun does not hit with such intensity here, but for what it's worth, I peeled my vinyl off after about 1.5 years, and my paint did not fade at all. The clear did not peel off, and I have an onyx black car. I always park my car outside year round too. There was a noticeable outline once the vinyl was removed, but after a nice claybar and wax, the outline was gone.

Hope that helps you out.

I've read that I should heat the vinyl while I peel it off.

Anybody ever head of this?

and yes my car is always outside

It will heat up the glue so it will make it much easier, and in doing that you wont take off any clearcoat.

Yea, use a heat gun, it will definately make the vinyl come off much quicker, and easier, it loosens the glue right up, keeps it from breaking into a million pieces on the way off as well. If you have a ton of glue remnants left, try a lite bit of gumout on a rag to wipe those areas...not too much...could be hard on the paint.
