Default Extra super-duper fragile paint or what?

Is it just me, or is the paint on these cars really really fragile...

Can bug splat hurt the paint? cuz i've got what looks like bug splat on my nose but it wont wash off. Did it eat through wax, damage clear, or what?

Another question: I did a search, but didnt find anything useful. I was wondering how long bird splat can remain on the car before it has to be washed off.

On the bug splat..I had a couple on my 98 T/A that I got during some 160mph runs on the highway. Those things were damn near impossible to get out just by washing. I'm sure they're not good for the wax/paint because of whatever chemical makeup they have.

With bugs, you need to get them off as soon as you can or they will start eating through your clear coat. I think you have already figured that one out. You will need to get some clay or a compound after it to get it out.

Bugs suck! Bird crap is only that much worse. My mom's truck had some over the hood which she left on there for about a week or so before getting the truck washed and left permanent spots on it.

The bugs are a pain to deal with, specialized cleaners/compounds help. The bird droppings should be removed nearly as soon as you see them. I have seen instances where the bird droppings etch the clear coat through high dollar waxes. Especially if the area you live in stays pretty hot/sunny.

I don't know I had a kid jump on the hood of my car and I could not tell but I got chips out of my paint in the front from bugs. I know the front was repainted before i bought the car.

My front was also repainted, i can tell because the pass. headlight was replaced and the engine bay was reshaped and rewelded. So who knows what kinda paint job the previous owner had done... It looked nice until I noticed those bug gut marks... And as I take more time in detailing this car I've noticed that the guy went crazy all over the car with touch-up paint, there's easily ten little marks all over the car where it has been touched up - you could never tell unless your face is 3 inches from the surface of the car, but---weird guy...

I swatted at a bug on my hood with a piece of paper and it scratched it. Also i was drying my car with a towel and some EXTREMELY small debris scratched my paint too, these cars do seem to be easy to scratch.

Try to keep a good layer of polish and wax on them. It'll help to keep genuine defects out of the paint/clearcoat.
