Default Took a shot at HDR photography this evening...

Well this is my new fad I guess. It's alot of fun trying to see what I can make out of the photos. For those who don't know, HDR photography involves merging several differently exposed shots of the exact same scene to create an extreme dynamic range. When done right with a really good camera, the results are stunning. I think these came out pretty good, especially since this is only the second day i've tried it, and I'm using a 3MP point-and-shoot Sony. God I need a new camera. BTW, these were two (sets of 7 photos) out of 10 sets taken. The rest were garbage.

On those it looks like you need a shot that really brings out the car. Like the others said looks very dark. Did you try tone mapping it at all after you merged all the pics? That could probably help you out a lot. Otherwise deff a good first attempt and ya can only get better from there.

I don't see anything resembling HDR. Not knocking you! Just trying to help here...

What camera are you using (Edit: Get a new camera :-P)? What settings are you using? What exposure value range are you using (-2, 0, +2)? What program are you using to create the HDR. Are you using a program to tone map after you create the HDR?

Once I get that info I can give you some pointers.

You also should just try using 3 photos or a max of 5 per HDR. These will turn out much better. Make sure you bracket them properly too. Do you have control of your shutter speed or f-stop on that P&S?

HAHA...it's almost embarrassing to answer those questions. I'm in the process of picking up a respectable camera, cause i'm sure that's a good part of my issues.

The cam is a Sony DSC-P72. It's only 3MP. Focus is on auto, and all settings outside of exposure and focus are either auto or preset-based on this puppy so i'm very limited. I did 7 shots ranging from -2 to +2 in 0.7 increments. I then merged them in Photoshop CS2, and did all post-processing within CS2. I should note that these photos were edited in 32-bit tiff format and then downconverted to JPG for posting, I did lose alot of quality there. But outside of that, i'm open to suggestions cause this seems like alot of fun.

You should really be using a DSLR if you can. Not sure why you edited them in a 32-bit tiff format. Like Hibachi said it's hard to see the HDR if there is any. THe increments should be more....not in the .7...at least a full stop difference. If so your car wouldnt be so dark because you'd have 7 different light values either way.

Try to take a pic away from all the powerlines and poles too

BS! Show it hahah

Here's the one I entered into the July POTM thread

Side note: Does anyone know of a picture host site that doesnt resize the pics like photobucket does? I feel like the true quality of the pic doesnt come through on smaller pics.
