Default color sanding to fix orange peel

I've thought about color sanding to get rid of orange peel, but consensus seems to be that the clear coat is too thin. Is it possible to get a couple more coats of clearcoat applied, then color sand? This would just be in certain areas, not the whole car. The paint itself is in good shape, no scratches or chips (except on the hood, which has no orange peel but I'll eventually have it repainted).

Sand with 800 wet over the panel you are going to spray with clear and then lay down about 2-3 coats and this will give you plenty of room to go crazy with.

pay a pro not tring to be funny but you can screw up in a hurry (paying to have it painted agian) If you do try it use urethane clear. Then use 2000 and stay away from edges. Just do the big flat panels first and Go slow with lots and lots of water on the sand paper, clean, get the spots you missed, clean, buff with compound, clean, buff with polish, wash, buff the spots you missed, and wash,,,,THEN SHINE. color sanding 101
GO SLOW. good luck

Technically color sanding means wetsanding the base coat or color coat. Here they are just talking about cutting and buffing the clear coat.

yeah, and you defenatly dont want to get the paper dry or else you'll get scratches in the clear with the clogged up paper.

Thanks for the advice. My plan is to have a pro do the extra clearcoating, then do the sanding myself. I only want to do the big panels (upper half doors and rear fenders), since that's where the orange peel is most obvious, or at least where it bugs me.
