Default Question about the Air-Bag System

Are there any laws governing air-bags systems, like disabling them, or removing them, etc?

No there arent any that I know off. I know several people who have taken out their airbags and still passed inspection, but they wanted to use the cavity as a "storage" compartment.

I'm just curious because i had mine deploy and don't want to pay to have them reset. So if there's no law (like there is for seatbeats) governing them then i may just remove them all together.

Anyone else have any comments on this subject?

I dont think theres a law after all look at all the hondas running around with aftermarket airbag-less steering wheels. But I think you may wish you had them again some day...

I do know it's against the law (federal) for a dealer to remove or disable the airbag system, but I don't believe that law applies to the private individual
I removed the airbag from my wifes old vehicle, due to the fact she's short and weighs about 110 lbs soaking wet, so she has to sit close to the steering wheel, which if the bags deployed could've killed her, in fact there was a form that the NHSTA had on their web site that would allow the dealer to disable the airbags (once the approvals were granted)

Dealers can disable them but you have sign some paperwork agreeing and that you understand what you are doing....

Are you wanting too do it yourself and why? even if you do it yourself unless you have editing software you will need to go have the code removed. not sure if they will just remove it without servicing it.
