Metal polishing question
I want to re-polish the wheels on my car. They are in pretty good shape, as I keep them polished with Mother's Billet polish, but they have very slight pitting that's only noticeable up close.
I was going to machine polish them. I found a motor that is 1/4 hp and spins up to 15,000 rpm, and has a foot switch to adjust speed, and a flex shaft. The only bad thing is that it only has a 5/32" chuck. If I can find an adapter for a larger sized arbor, will this motor be good enough for what I want to do?
I am planning on starting with tripoli, then white rouge. What should I finish it off with? Mother's Billet by hand, or can I use the Mother's with the machine? Also, all the different polishing pads confuse me. What's the difference between the sewn, spiral, and loose buffs?
Thanks for the help.
