Default Repairing drill slip?

To make a long story short, I was drilling a hole in the front valence and the drill bit slipped leaving about a 1 inch long x 1/16 inch deap gouge in the paint/valence. I was thinking of simply using multiple layers of touch up paint and then wet sanding/buffing it out. How should I go about repairing my bone head move?

Were you installing a grille? Will it cover it up? (This is why I've been procrastinating on installing mine for a while.) Probably would help to see pics.

Yes, i was installing a grille. The drill slipped and bam, dumb *** move. The grille does cover it up, but I will know it's there and I can't have that.
