Keeping Polished Items...Polished
 

Hey guys Ive been looking at dress up parts for my engine bay, Most of the parts I find are polished and I know upkeep on polished items is a PITA so how can I get a chrome like shine and upkeep with polished Items? What about spraying it with clear coat or maybe that zoop seal stuff, anyone have experience with that?

If you are going to clear coat it, you better get the exact finish you are looking for before you spray. If not, it is really going to be a PITA to start over once you have cleared. I have never thought of using Zoop Seal, I am kind of curious about that myself.

Zoop Seal is the way to go. Trust me.

My engine's polish work was left raw. It still looks like it was done last week. I havn't touched it in over a year. No oxidation. :confused: Of course it helps that the car isn't driven in the rain with crappy water baking on the engine and all.


Plus, the smoother and higher quality the initial shine, the better it will hold up.

So does zoop seal dull the finish?

It's a mixture. If you mix the parts wrong it can haze everything and you have to machine buff the crap off and polish it again.

If you apply it correctly it will be glass clear and protect from oxidation up to 2 years.

Is it difficult to get the mixture right? How is it applied?

Don't know. My father has used it. I heard about the mixture thing from him.

I don't use coatings, my work is easy to keep up. Honestly, I havn't seen better work than mine. :chug: (smoothness of sanding and overall finish) It doesn't need to be worked on as much compared to a part with a more pourous finish.
