I did a custom install on mine. A little ABS plastic, epoxy, and a file. The shift light is the proform self contained shift light. People ask what it is all the time, I say its a factory option from GM It is bright in the day and night. I have it angled towards me and slightly upward.

Thats a nice fit in there but for me thats just too low. When your staring down the track your only gonna see that out of the corner of your eye. I guess its a full size light so maybe your gonna see it not matter what. I have my nitrous siwtches in that spot. But thats a very nice clean install.

As far as the pillar install it looks like its behind a gauge and again off to the left makes it hard to see straight down the track.

To each his own I guess, as long as you can see the thing and you dont have to look for it your not defeating the purpose of the light.
When I'm racing I'm staring straight ahead. My head is up and slightly left or right for the tree and then its locked forward and I dont see anything but top of the steering wheel, some dash, windshield and track. Having to glance in one direction or another to see a shift light is not a good way to race IMO. Its also harder with a helmet on. Your peripheral vision is cut down so seeing something to the side of your head means you have to turn your head. Its just not good to have to be looking around your cockpit while your trying to get down the 1/4 mile as fast as you can.

All the lights I see at the track are mounted directly in front of the driver either on the dash or steering wheel. You dont see racers with lights in hidden spots, its not a fashion show, its a useful tool in drag racing.

I've got mine right on top of the steering column. I may mount it in a vent, but I kinda like it out in the open.

You won't have to look for it. Mine is bright enough I can see it while lookin straight out the front. You don't need it right in front of your eyes unless your pereferial(sp?) vision isn't that great. I thought at first it might be too far left but its great.

I like that LED light on the pillar window vent, very cool!!

If you're looking to do a tach/shift light, then if can be mounted here:

Do you have any pictures of that by chance? I have the Raptor also, and want to stay away from the defroster vent...i'd rather have clear windows personally! But i'd like to see a picture or 2 if you wouldn't mind.

That's funny. It would be cool if you could make a high pitched beep to go with the light...

it would have to be 160db minimum...im just kidding, but i would have to be effin loud...but im more reflexive to light or seeing something than i would be at hearing. i was never good a musical chairs, but i always kicked *** at the arcade where you smash the alligators heads that come out of the cave...

I had my harlan in the AC vent, but always kinda found myself looking for it. I moved it to right on top of the steering column. have it "secured" with double sided tape.

That is what I was afraid of when I thinking where to put my Raptor light. Plus, like mentioned before, I like/need clear windows... Mine is still on the A-pillar just on top in the corner. My girlfriend didn't notice it until I was talking to one of my friends about it. Being that much closer to your eyes, it doesn't blind you either.
