Default Cleaned my cow skin, 56K die...

If you've never cleaned your leather, you'd be suprised at how dirty they are. What happens is that the pores in the leather get clogged w/ dirt and oil from your body and I don't know if you knew this but leather is not supposed to be shiney. My seats were shiney, hard, and cracked... not any more.

I used pine-sol diluted w/ water (2parts water> 1part pine-sol). And get a scrubber brush and a couple towles. Spray the pine-sol generously on your seats, scrub well, and wipe quickly. When you're done cleaning you'll need a moisterizer to keep your leather from getting hard and cracking. I haven't moisterized my seats yet cause I don't know what to use, but whatever you use make sure it has lanolin oil in it.

Enough talking, here are some pics of my 130K beaten seats before the cleaning. (Notice the shine)

And after.

And here's my Camaro after about 3 weeks w/ no cleaning at all, just a California Cover and a California duster. (Covers for sale btw )

Thanks guys. I found some before pics. I highly suggest you do this if you've never done it before. Only takes about an hour...

Well, just so you know, GM coats all their leather in a urethane. So leather treatment isn't actually doing anything. That's why the seats are always shiny.

Notice how they don't feel at all like real leather....that's why.

Still looks good though!

Thanks for the info, but did you see the before and after pics? Are you saying it's impossible for the pores in the leather to clog w/ dirt and other **** because they are already coated w/ urethane? Does the urethane wear off?

Yeah I guess you could say the Urethane wears off. That's when the seats are all white/cracked/flimsy = beat. Other than that, no.

I'm not saying it's impossible to clean anything. But what you're cleaning isn't leather, it's coated leather. If by pores, you mean the preforated leather, than yeah. Same deal.

They can be cleaned, but I think you're over complicating things with all that work. A regular cleaner will have pretty much the same effect.

For some reason I like the commercial Zep "Leather Cleaner". Stuff cleans the seats up like new, and has a damn good leather smell.

As long as you're happy with it, is what counts. I HATE dirty interiors...

I'm not talking about the perforations in the leather.... You know how human skin has pores in it? It's the same w/ leather. Leather is just cow skin; like my title What I'm saying is that the pores get clogged over time, that's what makes the leather hard/cracked. That with the addition of no moisturizer. But if what your saying is true about the seats being coated from the factory w/ urethane, then I don't know.

Yeah, no car GM sells has real genuine untreated leather. They coat it for durability, ease of clean up, etc.

My old man knows what the exact name of the stuff is. I just know it's a urethane. My old man sells machinery that cuts/coats lots of different stuff, in cars from all the big names. Here, and over seas.
