Question You taller drivers . . . +6'2" . . . inside please

I had NO IDEA where to post this question so here goes.

How would one go about extending the steering column so the steering wheel is 4-6" closer to the driver?

Being tall with long legs kind of limits seating position.

It's a major PIA to find a perfect "battle-stations" seating position without sitting Indian style while driving (especially for AutoX or RoadRacing )

I imagine this modification would involve mostly custom work . . . just wanted to know if anyone else did it and what did you do?

Thanks!

I'm 6'3" 195lbs and I don't have any issues, maybe you have short arms by nature?

Default Tall Drivers

That sounds like a costly mod Chris, I've never heard of anyone having that done

I'm just a hair under 6'2'' and I fit pretty snug in my camaro with the seat full back

unless you san find an old C4 steering column AND it bolts up, sounds like you'll be moving up. Strange, though, I sit near upright, tilted down in front and have zero issues. i'm 6'3", 200 with a slight belly, lol

The only problem I have is sometimes getting out. My knees feel like they are under my chin. I couldn't imagine if it was lowered!

Yeah, I'm 6'3", 200lbs. To me, the driving position is about perfect. Snug, but not cramped. My brother's M3 is like reaching a mile away for the steering wheel.

6'1 with seat all the way back and tilted back pretty far (not enough to be a gangsta) and i don't have any issues with it... i have pretty short arms for my height too.

what annoys me most is when i forget to tilt the steering wheel up all the way when i get out, bc then if i try to jump into the car really fast, i smack my knees on the steering column.

I'm 6'8 260 lbs and fit in my SS a little snug but fine over all. My seat is tilted back quite a bit though.

Wow your tall!!! Im 6'4" and I thought I towered over everyone...
Anyways, I just tilt the seat back, put it all the way to the floor, and adjust it forward or to the back depending on driving habits. Maybe its just cuz I got the long arms to match the long legs....

I know how you feel, I'm 6' 2" and have long legs. When I get the seat back far enough for my legs to work good my arms aren't long enough to let my elbows rest on the console. It must be worse for you.

I wish I could pull the steering wheel towards me a couple of inches. I have a 72" reach however, my legs are to damn long.

I am 7' 6'' and I fit no problem, just got to pop the t top everytime i drive

j/k 6' 2'' 240lbs steering column isnt too bad although I know what you mean, sometimes I feel like grandma when the seat is reclined to the right position for my arms.

I am what you might consider the size of a Brick s$%^ house. I am 6'4" and 320lbs (for some reason everyone things I top out at 275 lol). I have no issues with my Z but then again I have always driven F bodies. I guess its more of finding that comfortable position.
Not to turn ya off to the idea of the extension. Believe me I have thought of it.
