How to hook up a power passenger seat? Hey guys, finally got leather seats for my Formy. Much to my surprise, the passenger seat has power too. Question: Has anyone added a power passenger seat to a factory stock manual passenger seat vehicle? If so, how did you do it? I'm looking at it and figure I could splice power to the seat, but before I jump in, it would help if someone has adapted it previously. I'm thinking power could be run to both seats, without them being adjusted simultaneously. Just a thought, I'm no professional...but I am somewhat logical. If no one has an answer, I'll sell the motor and rail and keep it manual. Thanks in advance guys. |
Thats funny i was just talking to a friend last night about dooing this. I want to get some of those mad seats and put power to both sides. I havent heard of anyone dooing this yet. Let me know how it works out. |
You know what LB, I'm indifferent to the power passenger seat. It was luck in obtaining it and I'll probably just sell everything under the seat. Manual is fine with me since only my kid(s) sit there, and any friend who occupies that seat can't fit anyways. Let me know if you want it. I'll still have to test it to see if it works though. |
Do your new seats have the power adjustable lumbar and bolster supports aswell? If so you need to buy this: http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b2.../TAHarness.jpg Then it is all plug and play. |
My mistake in the explanation of the passenger seat (manual slide). http://img114.imageshack.us/img114/2858/1001489aw1.jpg So, all I'll need to connect this passenger seat and provide power is that connector, right? Thanks for the pic and p/n of the connector Xsta Z 28. |

As you can see in that pic, the air pump for the lumbar support for BOTH seats is located under the passenger seat. The harness I show above includes all the wires and hoses to hook it up. No cutting, no splicing, no nothing just plug and go! |
Update/FYI... I can't connect the driver's seat for the time being without that adapter. I mistakenly thought the adapter was just to power the passenger seat and the lumbar, but its also the power adapter for the driver's seat. :bang: In Xsta Z 28's pic, the pieces named "Connect to power source" and "Power supply to driver's seat" are what's needed to provide power to the driver's seat in this conversion. Here are more pics: Power supply to seat, driver's side http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/4923/1001498vn4.jpg Power connector to the "new" driver's seat http://img110.imageshack.us/img110/6747/1001495ir6.jpg Since the new seat is currently only halfway back, I would be eating the steering wheel if I installed it and attempted to drive. |
Bryan- I agree with Xsta. That was the part number I was selling that you PM'ed me about. If you have that, you should be good to go with the power lumbar/power bolster. I had power seats in my SS before I went over to TA seats. The seats were manual 8-ways, but power bolster/power lumbar. They came without any tracks so I had to adapt my power 'maro tracks to fit the T/A seats. It wasn't a huge issue, I just don't have a great mounting spot for the power adjuster. Let me know if you have any other questions, but it looks to me like these guys have set you up for success. And yes, I got it from GMPartsDirect -Dan |
Thanks everyone for their help. Big problem, GMPartsDirect.com just canceled the order b/c the part is on back order with no eta. Anyone know where to acquire GM p/n 12177553 or another way to hook up power to at least the driver's seat? |
