Default way to turn off steering wheel lights?

I tried a search but only found a way to make them blue, which is freakin sweet, but not quite what I'm after. I would like to know if there is an easy way to turn them off with out messing anything up like the airbag. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

yeah just take the bulbs out, and if you have an aftermarket headunit and the controls dont work just unplug them.

You can't take the bulbs out. They are soldered onto a pc board.

lol .. they're taking the old ones out by cutting or de-soldering so to speak. Its not as easy as just unplugging the bulb. They do make silicone slip covers for bulbs.. sorta like "bulb condoms". Im sure you could find something that would black them out.. or even some high temp tape to put over the bulbs so it would block out the light without having to remove the bulbs.
