Default LT1 Camaro HID headlights/foglights video.

Since I curbed my wheel and I was bummed all day today, I decided to take a video to flex my HID setup. They are 4300k in the low beams, and 6000k in the fogs. I know it's reverse but I generally do not have them both on at the same time. The video does no justice for the color and brightness but it's kinda cool regardless.

It's actually much easier than you think. I did this almost 3 years ago in the low beams, and two years ago in the fogs. I hated my stock lights because they were dim, and I wanted something more impressive looking. I used to see a lot of guys taking Silverstar 9006 bulbs, and siliconing them into the stock housings with high temp RTV. So I figured, well....why not just do it with HIDs its the same thing.

It works out nice, you just need to figure out where to mount the balasts. I mounted mine undernieth the CAI. The car is back at my garage so I can't get pics, but I will later. You'll need a long extension and some self tapping screws.

The fog lights were a little more time consuming, but not difficult either. Plug and play HID kits are pretty simple devices. In order to do this with the fog lights, you'll need to cut off the plug on the HID kit, and your factory plug where the light bulb connects to. This allows you to hardwire the kit. Also you'll use the factory switch if you are like me and don't like adding tacky aftermarket switches to the interior of your car. 9006 kits will fit in the factory fog light housing, but you need to do a little bit of dremmeling to squeeze them in there. Silicone is used here just like in the low beams.

I've never had a problem doing this, although I must admit if I drive with them both on (dark roads) I get a lot of people high beaming me. On the other hand, the road looks like the sun is out.

Well, if you want your car to look like a BMW, you might end up spending more time trying to retrofit an HID kit with a projector. Go with a 6000k. Anything higher is going to look tacky.

What are the best 6000K to 6500K halogen bulbs?
