SS and snow don't mix
 

Tried to go to the first show this year in Cody. 10 miles east of town, I found myself in 2" of snow and off the side of the road. Fortunately, I missed the metal post and didn't bend or scratch anything. Took about 30 mminutes and several people to get the car out. Just glad it wasn't any worse. :usa:

Sounds like Indiana weather....."if you don't like it, just wait 5 minutes". Wyoming is beautiful though....I'd like to visit again sometime. It's been 15 years since my last visit.

It takes a gentle touch of the accelerator to get these cars through winter weather...glad to hear that you didn't tear your car up!

You people just don't know how to drive in thw winter! :D. I live in chicago and drive fine in 2 inchs of snow without salt on the rds... its a major pain but something I had to get used to. Hopfully I'll buy a daily car at the end of the summer :burn:.

Well, since you have an a4, put the shifter in "2". That will start the car out in second gear. That will help you with starts. As for the rest, it shouldn't take a brainiac to know you shouldn't go too fast on the roads, or give too much brake when slowing. Know all that and you're golden :nod:

Snow...what's that? Don't feel bad man, people down here are doing good just to drive in the rain. If there's even a minute chance that it could possibly snow people absolutely freak. Good thing there was no damage. BTW it's 75* here :cheers:

I drove in the rain last week and it was all spinning, I can not even imagine snow. :eek2:

The best "Mod" any of us northern folks should buy for our F-body's is a winter beater. We spend all kinds of money modding, and a reliable winter beater is less than $2K. This is well worth it since you will spend much more than $2K over the years cleaning and detailing out the winter weather effects your cars.

While my CETA was still on order, I bought an 86 Mazda 323 for $400. It had 97,000 miles on it, which isn't very much for those old rotary engines. After about another $1,500 in repairs, it is good to go another 30,000 miles.

Fit a "Beater" into your modding budget. You will be very happy you did.

We have plenty of snow here in the winter. Never take the car out in it. This was a real surprise,temp was supposed to be in the 40's not lower 30's. I had already slowed to about 25 mph and tried to make a gentle curve. At least all I have to do is clean everything again. BTW, should get up to 60 today. :usa: ;)

Where is Greybull Wyoming? I am in Fort Collins and head up to the Douglas area all the time. Is it anywhere close to that?

Kevin B: Greybull is 53 miles east of Cody in the north central part of the state. 3-4 hours north of Casper,120 miles west of Sheridan. I now know where the middle of nowhere is and I love it.

FWIW, this doesn't apply to all LS1 cars. It was either 1999 or 2000 that this feature was added. I have a 98 and this definitely doesnt work. When I put my shifter in '2' from a stop, it starts out in 1, and then upshifts into 2 and just stays there.

And I agree on the winter beater comment. This is my best traction mod I could have ever gotten for my T/A! :D

This isn't my year round driver. I have a '92 S10 Blazer 4X for everyday. The "2" detent works great if you're not pavked in. At least the SS is all clean now.

My Formula is my only car. I drive it everyday regardless of the weather conditions. In the winter I slap on a set of Blizzak tires on a set of cheap steel wheels. Its a package deal i got from TireRack two years ago. I live in MA and these tires help out alot. I have great traction with those tires. No offense, but if you endlessly spin your tires in the rain (besides slicks), you need to learn throttle conrtol.
