My Firehawk's HIDs from LEDGauges

I highly recommend them. I always thought the Fbody had horrible lighting so I decided to go with the kit from a LEDGauges. Couldn't be happier.

I gotta get me some of these. I can't see worth a darn at night in the TA

Fb0dy0nly Jul 25, 2007 06:22 AM

lights looks great and thats funny about not being able to see at night because ive had so many people say, "damn your headlights are bright," and how much better they can see at night in my car and as far as I know, my headlights are stock unless sumone switched um on me... but maybe with the TA, it is a different story....now if we were talking LT1 fbody, then yes because mine has horrible lighting at night and the bulbs are brand new.

They look good, you've got to do something about those fogs now though

You'll wish that they were one of the first mods you ever did. I will always have HIDs on any car I own from here on out. :)

Thanks - and yep, I'm probably going to order the fog HIDs, too. I'm addicted.

RUDE SS Jul 25, 2007 10:39 AM

Nice!! What temp are they?

bjamick Jul 25, 2007 10:45 AM

I see bright red X's :(

Y2KFirehawk Jul 25, 2007 10:50 AM

Looks nice, but you can see from miles away when someone just puts HIDs in reflector housings instead of converting to projectors to control the light properly.

HID lights in reflector housing when not equipped that way stock = illegal

Edit: answered my own question
http://www.ledgauges.com/CIMG7472.JPG
Those are HID bulbs in a reflector housing that is not designed for HIDs.... :judge:

shanev8 Jul 25, 2007 12:08 PM

They are indeed the hawtness!!!
easy install ey?

Guido1 Jul 25, 2007 12:11 PM

Guess I'm not picky. They look great and function great for half the price. Haven't gotten pulled over due to them - you have to know to aim them properly via raising/lowering.

They weren't bad. Came with instructions! Took maybe three hours because I also replaced the plastic gears in the headlight motors with the brass ones. Took my time as it was done on a weekend.

I want some too...

You would have to an HID with projectors retrofit, that being my suggestion. It would be 100% custom. I have seen others do it on here before. To my knowledge no one offers HID projector replacements for our sealed beams. I'm going to be doing it to my '07 Explorer with bi-xenons from an E55. If you google "HID retrofit" you will find plenty of people who have done it to various vehicles. Looks 10000x better then just sticking HID bulbs in reflector housing and doesn't blind others.

And no, I don't have HIDs in my Firehawk and don't plan to as the headlights are down 80% of the time it's driven ;)

Also 8000K HID bulbs are only slightly brigher than some halogen.... FWIW

I've done a lot of research in to HID automotive lighting in general in preparation of my project... :)

epic Jul 25, 2007 02:13 PM

These blow my stock headlights out of the water FWIW and that's all that matters. :)

ghettocruiser Jul 26, 2007 02:24 PM

I tried explaining something like this to someone else...and the thread got deleted...

Yes they are bright. And while they might be "better" than your stock headlights, thats not all that matters. I promise you... other drivers are being blinded by those lights, or atleast annoyed. I dont care how far down you aim them. HID light is a totally different animal and a halogen housing just takes the light and throws it all over the place.

I got a set of infiniti fx35 bi-xenon projectors to retrofit into my 87. That way Ill have nice sharp cut off, and WAY more light in usable areas. Plus Ill retain my high beams, and wont have to have a separate bulb, and I wont be throwing glare all over...

As for being pulled over... a buddy of mine had H4 conversion housings in his jeep along with an hid kit. Got pulled over and they really put him through the works. Its kind of like other mods... My exhaust is totally illegal. I havent been pulled over for it yet. But that doestn mean I wont. And if I do, Ill probably be in for it.

Just sayin... not tryin to argue or get the thread locked or deleted.

 I see no reason why your post should be deleted or locked. You are stating the facts just as I was. I thank you for bringing up your points as well. I agree that it is a shame that no one makes a true projector w/ HID swap kit for our cars, but throwing HIDs in reflector housings is just :barf: IMO and the police are starting to get wise to this as well... And unlike driving with your exhaust uncapped and just closing it when a cop comes after you, turning your headlights off won't work...

P.S. ghettocruiser that is one nice thirdgen

epic Jul 26, 2007 02:41 PM

Not arguing, projectors rule all. I think anyone with half a brain that has researched HIDs know this. ;)

However, I get nothing but compliments and spent a great amount of time to make sure they aren't blinding to those coming in the other direction. For the record, some luxury vehicles on the road have a horrible spread that is blinding to oncoming traffic. I concur that the light does give out too much of a spread, but as long as it's angled down, the only things you're blinding are animals.

Agree to disagree. I think they came out awesome.

Well said! Thank you for acknowledging the technical/legal concerns brought forward! :drive: And this is why I https://www.greensmilies.com/wp-incl...cons_heart.gif LS1tech

This way the technical information is still out there for others to read, search for, and draw on.

P.S. 8000k light spectrum and the HID turn-on flicker is still :hump:

Cool with me too.

Thanks for the props on my car!

They do make a true projector housing for my headlight size...5064s. Only thing is, they are like $900... Just silly if you ask me.

Just like you 4th gen guys... Its like 1000 bucks for a projector kit.

Ill post up a thread once I get started on my retro...hopefully they come out half decent.

J.

Yep, that's why I opted for this style.

My budget is more focused on going fast.
