Default popping a dent out ... do it yourself, or get a shop to do it?

I walked out to my car earlier today and noticed a nearly golfball sized dent in my rear drivers side quarter ... maybe half an inch above where the bumper cover meets the quarter panel... should I try to bump it out from the inside? or buy one of those gimmicky pop a dent things and give it a shot? or should I just pay to have somebody do a dent removal on it?

I also noticed, after having the car washed, on the rear bumper, there was a run about an inch and a half long of cracked or warped paint... no idea what it was, thought it was leftover wax or something, but no... was either melted or had something acidic on it...

visual problems are usually the least of my worries as far as the paint itself is concerned, my paint, though on a low miles car, is nowhere near fantastic... but the physical dent in it pisses me off quite a bit...

I wouldnt buy a dent remover thing, it sounds like you've got a small enough dent that it will be really hard to get it with the dent remover. If I was you I would try the dry ice dent removal first, and if no luck, id just get some guy to do it for 80$.

Pics would help.

Go get yourself a heat gun (or hairdryer) and a "canned air" duster used for electronics. Heat up the dent with the heat gun for a couple minutes. Turn the air duster upside down and spray the dent. Liquid co2 will come out with the can upside down instead of air when it's rightside up. The liquid co2 is -34*F, similar to dry ice and much easier to use. Hopefully that'll pop it out......sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

You have to heat the panel pretty darn hot, and spray the co2 for a good 5-10 seconds. Again, it might just not work on your dent. If there's any crease at all or the dent is on a convex curve, this method usually won't do squat.
