when you're doing an engine swap..

like if i have a 3.8. and putting a 5.7 in with the 6speed transmission... can i just drop the engine and trans in.. or do i have to remove the front axel and wheel like this pic:

the engine is easier to remove from the bottom. not sure if you can even remove it from the top.

I can't support your question but what in the hell does it have to do with appearance and detailing? May get better luck in the External Engine section

+1....but to answer the question. We drop the motor from the bottom on every single car we work on.

through the bottom is far easier in the long run and i would look in the conversion section might find a few things also check the v6 sites

We removed my lt1 from the top...granted we had the heads, intake, and headers off, otherwise it came out fine.

Not really the right section, but its something like 20 bolts and the whole engine/tranny front suspension drop out. It is actually pretty easy. Looks like this:

wow

so i'd have to jack the car pretty high then.

i dont understand how the axle/wheels come off with it. how do you disconnect that from the rest of the body. just bolts?

Well you disconnect struts and ball joints and stuff and when you unbolt the K-member the whole thing pretty much comes down with it.

6-kmember
4-trans
2bolts/2nuts-passenger strut tower
2bolt/2nuts- driver strut tower

Yea, six k member bolts, then unbolt the 4 strut mounts under the hood and take the trans cross member off..

You also have to unbolt the pcm and disconnect 3 connections under the passangerside kick panel and pull a short section of wiring into the engine bay and leave the harness attached to the motor..

removing the six cylinder engine from the not isn't all that hard, i've done it. but going from the bottom would be easier, just doing it at home jacked up like that scares the shit out of me! find a friend with a lift lol
